The Senior Fabrication QA/QC Engineer leads the development, implementation, and execution of quality assurance and control programs for fabricated mechanical systems—including piping, tanks, pressure vessels, and modular assemblies—used in water and wastewater treatment facilities. This role ensures compliance with all applicable codes (ASME, AWS, AWWA) and client specifications, oversees welding and NDT operations, and serves as the technical authority for QA/QC processes across fabrication projects.
Develop, implement, and maintain fabrication QA/QC plans, inspection test plans (ITPs), and weld quality control procedures.
Lead shop inspections, fabrication surveillance, and review of work across pressure vessels, custom skids, pipe spools, and valve assemblies.
Serve as the final technical authority on welding procedures (WPS/PQR), welder qualifications (WQR), and weld acceptance criteria.
Oversee and validate NDT operations (UT, RT, PT, MT), reviewing results, evaluating defects, and ensuring proper documentation.
Ensure full traceability of welds, materials, and NDT reports through comprehensive records and databases.
Drive code compliance for ASME Section VIII & IX, AWS D1.1/D1.6, AWWA D100/D102, and other applicable standards.
Work closely with engineering, fabrication, field construction, and third-party inspectors to resolve quality issues and ensure readiness for FATs and final delivery.
Lead internal and external audits, NCR reviews, root cause analyses, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Act as the main liaison with client quality representatives during inspections, submittals, and turnover documentation review.
Mentor and train junior and mid-level QA/QC engineers and welding inspectors.
Establish standard QA documentation libraries, weld log systems, and inspection checklists to be used across projects.
QA/QC leadership in fabrication and welding for water treatment systems
Oversight of weld inspections, NDT, and documentation traceability
Code compliance (ASME, AWS, AWWA) and client specification adherence
Team mentoring, audit readiness, and quality system improvement
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, or related discipline
Certifications:
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) required
NDT Level II or III certification (UT/RT/PT/MT) preferred
ASME Section IX knowledge essential; familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems desirable
Experience:
8–12+ years of QA/QC experience in mechanical fabrication, welding, or pressure equipment within water, wastewater, or industrial sectors
Proven leadership on large fabrication projects involving skids, tanks, piping, and modular assemblies
Skills:
Strong command of welding and NDT techniques, weld rejection criteria, and fabrication drawing interpretation
Experience with weld log systems, NCR handling, and QA documentation turnover packages
Skilled in client communication, team leadership, and root cause/corrective action processes
Attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and a proactive approach to problem-solving
