Roles & Responsibilities

Job Title: Fabrication QA/QC Engineer – NDT & Weld Inspections 

Job Summary:

The Mid-Level Fabrication QA/QC Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the quality and compliance of fabricated mechanical systems—such as tanks, pressure vessels, and piping—used in water and wastewater treatment projects. This position involves hands-on inspection, coordination of NDT services, documentation control, and verification of adherence to applicable codes such as ASME, AWS, and AWWA. The role also requires engagement with fabrication teams, welding personnel, and client inspectors.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Oversight

  • Conduct and document in-process and final visual inspections of welds, pipe spools, tanks, and structural assemblies.

  • Review and approve WPS, PQR, and WQR to ensure proper qualification and application.

  • Support the implementation of ITPs (Inspection and Test Plans) and Quality Control Plans.

NDT Management

  • Schedule and supervise non-destructive testing activities including UT, RT, MT, and PT as per project requirements.

  • Review NDT reports, ensure conformance to project standards, and maintain traceability to components and drawings.

  • Interface with third-party NDT service providers and coordinate field inspections when needed.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate QA/QC documentation including inspection reports, weld maps, traceability records, and certificates.

  • Verify compliance with codes such as ASME Section VIII & IX, AWS D1.1, and AWWA D100.

  • Support project documentation handover and turnover package preparation.

Coordination & Communication

  • Collaborate with design, fabrication, and construction teams to resolve quality issues and support continuous improvement.

  • Interface with client QA/QC representatives during audits, inspections, and FATs.

  • Investigate and report nonconformities and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Qualifications and Skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or related technical field

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – AWS or equivalent

  • NDT Level II (UT, RT, PT, MT) preferred or coordination experience

  • Familiarity with ASME Section IX, VIII, B31.3, AWS D1.1, and AWWA standards

Experience:

  • 3–6 years of QA/QC or welding inspection experience in fabrication or industrial projects

  • Experience with pressure vessels, skids, and piping systems in the water, wastewater, or process industries

Skills:

  • Proficient in reading fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and standards

  • Competent in using inspection tools and QA software (Excel, weld mapping tools, etc.)

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills

  • Able to work independently while supporting project goals
