The Executive Director – Mechanical Engineering Services is the senior-most authority responsible for setting the strategic direction and technical excellence of mechanical engineering activities across the enterprise. This role oversees all aspects of mechanical design, analysis, system integration, reliability, and project execution for facilities, utilities, process systems, and critical mechanical infrastructure. The Executive Director ensures consistency in engineering standards, regulatory compliance, innovation, and delivery of high-quality mechanical solutions aligned with business objectives.
Develop and execute the vision and roadmap for mechanical engineering across all business units and capital projects.
Lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams and ensure mechanical engineering is effectively integrated with civil, electrical, controls, and process disciplines.
Define organizational structure, talent needs, and capability development strategies for the mechanical engineering function.
Serve as a member of the senior leadership team, advising on engineering implications of strategic decisions.
Own and continuously improve engineering standards, specifications, and procedures for mechanical systems (HVAC, boilers, piping, pressure vessels, utilities, process equipment, etc.).
Oversee peer reviews, technical audits, and design assurance for major capital and operational projects.
Champion innovation in materials, design approaches, modeling tools, and sustainable engineering solutions.
Provide executive oversight for the mechanical engineering component of major capital projects, from front-end engineering design (FEED) through commissioning.
Drive adherence to scope, schedule, budget, and quality in all engineering deliverables.
Ensure that risk assessments, constructability reviews, and lifecycle cost analyses are incorporated into the engineering process.
Ensure mechanical engineering activities comply with all relevant codes and regulations including:
ASME, API, NFPA, OSHA, ISO, local building codes
Oversee the engineering support for safety studies (HAZOPs, FMEAs), environmental impact reviews, and operational risk assessments.
Maintain readiness for audits by regulatory bodies and clients, serving as Subject Matter Expert (SME) when required.
Lead and mentor a large team of mechanical engineers, engineering managers, and technical specialists across locations or business units.
Develop internal training programs and succession planning strategies to build deep technical expertise and leadership capability.
Foster a high-performance, safety-conscious engineering culture focused on innovation and accountability.
Work cross-functionally with Operations, Maintenance, Project Management, Quality, EHS, and external engineering firms to ensure successful execution of engineering services.
Represent the organization in client meetings, industry forums, technical committees, and vendor negotiations as needed.
Mechanical System Design & Integration: HVAC, steam systems, utility piping, rotating equipment, heat exchangers, compressed air systems, etc.
Asset Lifecycle Engineering: Reliability engineering, root cause analysis, condition monitoring, asset integrity.
Energy & Sustainability: Mechanical engineering support for energy efficiency, decarbonization, and emissions reduction.
Digital Engineering Tools: CAD, BIM, FEA, CFD, simulation platforms, and engineering data management systems.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s or MBA preferred).
Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent registration strongly preferred.
Minimum of 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership role.
Demonstrated experience in leading engineering across complex capital projects in manufacturing, life sciences, energy, or infrastructure.
Deep knowledge of industry codes and best practices: ASME, ANSI, API, NFPA, OSHA, ISO standards.
Strong business acumen, project management capabilities, and experience leading large teams across geographies or functions.
