Job Title: Equipment Operator 

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Equipment Operator (Water Plants) – Mid-Level to join our water treatment plant operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and optimization of equipment used in water treatment processes. You will play a key role in ensuring efficient, safe, and reliable plant operations while maintaining water quality standards. As a mid-level operator, you will have a deeper understanding of plant systems, work more independently, and provide support to junior operators while coordinating with senior staff to ensure smooth plant operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operating Water Treatment Equipment:

    • Operate and monitor equipment used in water treatment processes, including pumps, valves, filtration systems, chemical dosing systems, and motors.
    • Make necessary adjustments to ensure that the equipment operates within the prescribed operating parameters, such as flow rates, pressure, and chemical dosing levels.
    • Ensure that all equipment is functioning correctly, troubleshoot issues when they arise, and perform minor repairs when necessary.
  2. Routine Maintenance and Inspections:

    • Perform preventive maintenance on water treatment equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize unplanned downtime.
    • Inspect pumps, valves, and filtration systems regularly, making necessary adjustments or replacements to ensure systems operate efficiently.
    • Document maintenance activities, including any repairs or modifications, to maintain accurate records of equipment condition and performance.
  3. Monitoring Water Quality and Plant Operations:

    • Monitor key water quality parameters (e.g., pH, turbidity, chlorine levels) and adjust equipment as needed to meet regulatory standards and plant specifications.
    • Review operational data from sensors, control panels, and other monitoring equipment to track plant performance.
    • Make recommendations for adjustments or improvements based on water quality analysis and performance data.
  4. Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:

    • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with water treatment equipment, including pump failures, filtration issues, and chemical dosing irregularities.
    • Utilize diagnostic tools and troubleshooting procedures to identify problems and perform repairs or coordinate with maintenance teams for more complex issues.
    • Work with senior operators and plant management to implement solutions for recurring or complex operational issues.
  5. Supervision and Training:

    • Provide training and guidance to junior operators on standard operating procedures, equipment handling, and safety protocols.
    • Assist in coordinating daily operations, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and safely, while supporting the team in achieving operational goals.
    • Oversee the work of less experienced operators, providing feedback and support as needed.
  6. Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure all activities are carried out following safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and environmental guidelines.
    • Lead by example in maintaining a safe work environment and ensuring that personal protective equipment (PPE) is used correctly.
    • Conduct regular safety checks, identifying hazards and working with management to implement corrective actions.
  7. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of operational activities, maintenance tasks, water quality testing results, and equipment performance.
    • Prepare and submit reports on plant operations, including any incidents, troubleshooting activities, and water quality compliance.
    • Collaborate with the management team to ensure that reports are detailed and provide insight into potential areas for improvement or attention.
  8. Continuous Improvement and Process Optimization:

    • Identify opportunities to optimize plant operations, improve efficiency, and reduce energy consumption or operational costs.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, offering suggestions for upgrades or changes to processes, systems, or equipment.
    • Stay updated on industry best practices, new technologies, and regulatory changes that may impact operations.

    • Ensure water quality standards are met consistently and help manage any deviations from those standards.
  3. Troubleshooting and Process Optimization:

    • Troubleshoot operational issues and contribute to process improvements that enhance plant efficiency and reliability.
  4. Safety and Regulatory Compliance:

    • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure that all operations comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and local codes.
  5. Team Leadership and Mentorship:

    • Provide mentorship to junior operators, ensuring adherence to best practices and operational standards.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent; a technical diploma or certification in Water Treatment, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
    • Additional training in equipment operation, water treatment, or safety practices is an advantage.
  2. Experience:

    • 2-4 years of hands-on experience in water treatment plant operations or similar roles, with a strong understanding of equipment maintenance and water quality standards.
    • Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting pumps, filtration systems, chemical dosing systems, and associated equipment in a water plant or similar environment.
  3. Skills:

    • Strong understanding of water treatment processes and equipment.
    • Experience with monitoring systems, control panels, and troubleshooting methods.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement solutions efficiently.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
    • Attention to detail and the ability to document operational activities accurately.
  4. Certifications (Preferred):

    • Water Treatment Operator certification or equivalent.
    • OSHA, First Aid, or CPR certifications.
    • Additional certifications in equipment operation or safety training are desirable.
