Job Title: Equipment Operator 

Job Summary:

We are looking for a motivated Equipment Operator (Water Plants) – Junior Level to join our water treatment plant team. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals who are looking to start a career in water plant operations and equipment management. As a Junior Equipment Operator, you will assist in the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of various equipment used in the treatment of water. Under the guidance of senior operators, you will learn the essential skills required to operate water treatment systems safely and efficiently.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assisting in the Operation of Water Treatment Equipment:

    • Assist in the operation of pumps, valves, filters, chemical dosing systems, and other water treatment equipment under supervision.
    • Monitor water quality parameters such as flow rates, pressure, turbidity, pH, and chemical levels to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Learn to adjust equipment settings and parameters to maintain optimal operation as per plant requirements.
  2. Routine Equipment Inspections and Maintenance:

    • Assist senior operators in conducting routine checks on equipment to ensure proper functioning and to identify any potential issues.
    • Support in cleaning, lubricating, and maintaining equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, and other machinery.
    • Help maintain records of maintenance activities and report any malfunctions or wear and tear to senior personnel.
  3. Monitoring Water Quality:

    • Observe and assist in monitoring water quality at different stages of the treatment process, ensuring water meets safety and quality standards.
    • Assist in performing basic tests for water quality, including pH, chlorine levels, and turbidity, and help in adjusting treatment processes as needed.
    • Ensure that water treatment processes comply with local environmental and health regulations.
  4. Assist in Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution:

    • Help identify and troubleshoot minor operational issues with equipment or systems, under the guidance of senior operators.
    • Learn to resolve simple equipment malfunctions or inefficiencies through adjustments or reporting the issues to senior staff.
    • Support in managing and addressing plant system alarms and issues that may arise during routine operations.
  5. Safety and Compliance:

    • Follow all plant safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
    • Assist in maintaining safety equipment, ensuring that all safety checks are completed regularly, and that all equipment is in good working condition.
    • Wear and enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for various tasks and operations in the plant.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Assist in maintaining accurate records of equipment operation, maintenance activities, and water quality testing results.
    • Help prepare daily reports on equipment performance, water quality, and any incidents or malfunctions.
    • Record observations of plant performance and communicate issues or concerns to senior staff in a timely manner.
  7. Learning and Development:

    • Participate in training programs to develop knowledge in the operation of water treatment systems and equipment.
    • Take part in safety and regulatory compliance training to better understand the standards required in water plant operations.
    • Gradually take on more responsibilities as you gain hands-on experience and develop your skills in operating water treatment equipment.

    • Assist in maintaining equipment and ensuring that safety protocols are followed in all activities.

    • Monitor and report on water quality parameters to ensure they meet regulatory standards.
  4. Learning and Skill Development:
    • Build technical skills in water treatment operations, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting, while learning from experienced operators.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent; any technical certification or coursework related to water treatment, environmental science, mechanical systems, or a related field is a plus.
    • Basic knowledge of water treatment processes, machinery, and safety protocols is beneficial.
  2. Experience:

    • 1-2 years prior experience required; this is an entry-level position ideal for individuals looking to start their career in water plant operations.
    • Any relevant internships, hands-on projects, or coursework related to water systems, environmental science, or industrial equipment would be an advantage.
  3. Skills:

    • Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills related to water plant operations.
    • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems used in water treatment is a plus.
    • Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
    • Attention to detail and the ability to monitor processes and systems efficiently.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team and adapt to a dynamic work environment.
  4. Certifications (Preferred):

    • Basic certifications in safety protocols (e.g., OSHA) or water treatment processes are beneficial but not required.
    • First Aid or CPR certification is a plus.
