This entry-level role is perfect for recent graduates in petroleum or chemical engineering fields who are looking to gain hands-on experience in the oil and gas industry, specifically in enhanced oil recovery methods. The EOR Engineer will work closely with senior engineers and project teams to support various EOR techniques, including water flooding, CO2 injection, thermal recovery, and chemical flooding.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in EOR Process Design and Optimization:

    • Assist senior engineers in designing and optimizing EOR processes, including water flooding, CO2 injection, thermal recovery, and chemical flooding.
    • Support the modeling and simulation of reservoir behavior to evaluate the effectiveness of different EOR techniques in specific fields.
    • Help analyze the properties of reservoirs to determine the most appropriate EOR method for maximizing recovery.
  2. Data Analysis and Reservoir Evaluation:

    • Assist in collecting and analyzing reservoir data, including pressure, temperature, fluid characteristics, and production rates.
    • Learn to interpret reservoir simulation models and provide data-driven recommendations for improving recovery efficiency.
    • Support in the development of technical reports that summarize findings, insights, and recommendations related to EOR performance.
  3. Field Operations and Pilot Testing:

    • Support the implementation of pilot projects to test EOR techniques in the field.
    • Assist in monitoring field operations and gathering data from pilot tests to evaluate the effectiveness of applied techniques.
    • Help troubleshoot any issues that arise during the pilot testing phase and assist in implementing corrective actions under the guidance of senior engineers.
  4. Project Management and Reporting:

    • Assist in the preparation of project documentation, including reports, schedules, cost estimations, and progress tracking.
    • Support the creation of technical presentations to communicate project status, findings, and results to stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with other engineers and project managers to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
  5. EOR Method Selection and Improvement:

    • Assist in evaluating the performance of existing EOR methods and suggest improvements for optimizing recovery rates.
    • Learn about different EOR technologies and stay updated on emerging trends and techniques in the field of enhanced oil recovery.
    • Provide technical input during brainstorming sessions to improve current EOR operations and identify new opportunities for increasing oil recovery.
  6. Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:

    • Ensure that all activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations related to oil recovery operations.
    • Assist in ensuring that safety protocols are followed during fieldwork and that environmental impact assessments are conducted for new EOR projects.
    • Participate in safety training and contribute to a culture of safety within the team.
  7. Collaboration and Teamwork:

    • Work closely with other engineers, geologists, and technical specialists to integrate multidisciplinary approaches to EOR.
    • Participate in team meetings to discuss EOR project progress, technical challenges, and solutions.
  8. Learning and Professional Development:

    • Actively engage in learning opportunities, including training on EOR techniques, reservoir modeling software, and industry-specific tools.
    • Participate in professional development activities, such as seminars, workshops, and certifications, to build technical expertise in enhanced oil recovery.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of petroleum engineering principles and EOR techniques (e.g., water flooding, CO2 injection, thermal recovery).
  • Familiarity with reservoir simulation software (e.g., CMG, Eclipse) or eagerness to learn new tools.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and generate insights.
  • Familiarity with standard petroleum engineering calculations and methods for evaluating reservoirs and recovery methods.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to create reports and presentations.

Key Focus Areas:

Field Instrumentation: Assist in maintaining and calibrating field devices for accurate process control.

Troubleshooting: Learn basic fault diagnosis and support the resolution of issues in instrumentation systems.

Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and participate in training programs to ensure workplace safety.

Skill Development: Gain technical knowledge and experience in oil and gas field operations.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant coursework in reservoir engineering, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, or enhanced oil recovery methods is a plus.

Experience:

  • No prior professional experience required.
  • Internships, academic projects, or field experience related to oil recovery or reservoir engineering is a plus.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Basic knowledge of reservoir simulation software (e.g., CMG, Eclipse) is beneficial but not required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of laboratory testing techniques for fluid analysis is advantageous.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong interest in oil and gas industry processes and a desire to specialize in enhanced oil recovery techniques.
