Job Title: Electrical Technician Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Electrical Technician Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and guiding a team of electrical technicians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment. This role ensures that electrical work is completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory standards. The supervisor will coordinate daily work schedules, manage resources, and provide technical support and training to team members. The Electrical Technician Supervisor is also responsible for ensuring that all work is completed on time, within budget, and with the highest quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Team Supervision and Coordination:

    • Supervise a team of electrical technicians, providing technical guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure high-quality work and efficient completion of tasks.
    • Allocate work assignments to team members based on skill sets, project priorities, and deadlines.
    • Monitor daily activities to ensure that projects are on schedule and team members are following safety protocols and work procedures.
    • Review and approve work completed by technicians, providing feedback to ensure continuous improvement.
  2. Installation and Maintenance Oversight:

    • Oversee the installation and maintenance of electrical systems, including wiring, circuit boards, electrical panels, motors, and lighting systems.
    • Ensure proper installation and functionality of electrical systems according to project specifications, electrical codes, and safety standards.
    • Troubleshoot complex electrical issues, providing guidance to technicians on resolving problems efficiently.
  3. Work Schedule and Resource Management:

    • Develop and maintain work schedules for the team, ensuring that tasks are prioritized based on urgency and project timelines.
    • Ensure the team has the necessary resources, tools, and materials to complete work effectively.
    • Track and manage time sheets, material usage, and inventory for electrical components and tools, ensuring that the team is properly equipped.
  4. Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure that all electrical work is conducted in compliance with safety standards, electrical codes, and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, NEC).
    • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure that team members are following established safety procedures.
    • Enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure the team adheres to lock-out/tag-out procedures during maintenance activities.
    • Address any safety concerns or hazards immediately to prevent accidents or injuries.
  5. Training and Development:

    • Provide on-the-job training to junior and mid-level technicians, helping them develop their technical skills and understanding of electrical systems.
    • Stay updated on the latest technologies, industry standards, and best practices, sharing knowledge with the team to improve efficiency and quality.
    • Conduct skill development sessions and provide resources for technicians to enhance their knowledge of electrical systems and troubleshooting techniques.
  6. Quality Assurance and Reporting:

    • Ensure that all electrical work meets company quality standards, customer specifications, and regulatory compliance.
    • Review work completed by the team, checking for accuracy, quality, and safety.
    • Prepare and maintain reports on electrical system performance, maintenance schedules, repairs, and system upgrades.
    • Ensure that service logs and maintenance records are accurately documented and filed for future reference.
  7. Problem Solving and Troubleshooting:

    • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex electrical systems or systems that have malfunctioned, providing expert guidance to resolve issues quickly.
    • Identify root causes of electrical failures and work with the team to implement long-term solutions.
    • Provide technical support to team members during critical repairs or installations, ensuring issues are addressed effectively.
  8. Collaboration with Other Departments:

    • Work closely with engineering, operations, and project management teams to ensure the smooth coordination of electrical work in larger projects.
    • Collaborate with other departments to discuss project needs, share updates, and address any technical issues that may arise.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, components, circuits, and installations (e.g., power distribution, motor control, PLCs).
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., NEC, OSHA, IEC).
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex electrical issues with precision and efficiency.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with experience leading and mentoring a team of technicians.
  • Good problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address electrical issues promptly.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing work schedules, resources, and inventory.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, management, and clients to ensure projects run smoothly.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field.
  • Relevant electrical certifications (e.g., NEC, OSHA) are preferred.
  • Electrical licenses (e.g., Journeyman Electrician or equivalent) are a plus.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Power Distribution Networks

  • Supervising the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of power distribution systems, ensuring efficient and reliable operations.
  • SCADA and PLC Systems

  • Managing the integration, programming, and troubleshooting of SCADA and PLC systems, ensuring proper automation and control within electrical networks.
  • Electrical Safety Standards and Codes (IEC, NEC)

  • Enforcing compliance with IEC, NEC, and other safety standards, conducting regular safety inspections, and implementing corrective measures.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience as an electrical technician, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience in electrical system installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair in industrial, commercial, or residential settings.
  • Previous experience in managing teams, coordinating schedules, and overseeing electrical projects is highly preferred.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency with electrical diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, circuit testers, oscilloscopes).
  • Familiarity with PLCs, control systems, and electrical automation equipment.
  • Knowledge of maintenance management software (e.g., CMMS) to track work orders and system performance.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks, and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to mentor and develop team members to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours or on-call, including weekends or after-hours, when necessary for emergency repairs or project needs.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks that require physical exertion.
