Job Title: Electrical Technician

Job Summary:

The Senior Electrical Technician is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of electrical systems across complex industrial, commercial, or residential settings. This role involves leading and guiding a team of technicians, ensuring the smooth operation of electrical systems, providing technical expertise in resolving complex electrical issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The Senior Electrical Technician will also play a key role in system improvements, project management, and mentoring junior and mid-level technicians.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Supervision:

    • Lead and mentor a team of electrical technicians, providing technical direction and support to ensure that work is performed to the highest standards.
    • Supervise and oversee the work of junior and mid-level technicians, ensuring that installations, maintenance, and repairs are carried out efficiently and safely.
    • Provide training and development to technicians, ensuring that they stay current with the latest electrical technologies, safety standards, and industry practices.
    • Coordinate work schedules, allocate resources, and prioritize tasks based on project timelines and client needs.
    • Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to help technicians grow professionally.
  2. Installation and Commissioning:

    • Oversee the installation and commissioning of complex electrical systems, including high-voltage circuits, motor control centers (MCCs), lighting, PLCs, and automated systems.
    • Review electrical designs and blueprints to ensure proper installation of electrical systems and components.
    • Ensure that all installations are in compliance with local electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations.
  3. Advanced Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:

    • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex electrical issues, including system failures, equipment malfunctions, and faults in electrical components such as circuits, motors, and panels.
    • Use advanced diagnostic tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, circuit analyzers, and power meters) to identify root causes of electrical problems and implement effective solutions.
    • Provide technical expertise in resolving complex electrical issues and ensure the team can address problems quickly and efficiently.
  4. Preventive and Corrective Maintenance:

    • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
    • Oversee the maintenance of critical electrical systems, such as motors, transformers, control panels, and backup power systems.
    • Manage corrective maintenance activities, ensuring that repairs are completed promptly and effectively, with minimal impact on operations.
  5. System Optimization and Efficiency:

    • Continuously monitor the performance of electrical systems and recommend improvements to enhance energy efficiency, reliability, and performance.
    • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to optimize the design and configuration of electrical systems to improve system uptime and reduce operational costs.
    • Implement best practices for electrical system performance, including energy-saving measures and equipment upgrades.
  6. Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure that all electrical work complies with safety regulations, electrical codes, and industry standards (e.g., NEC, IEC).
    • Conduct safety audits and reviews, ensuring that all team members adhere to electrical safety protocols and use appropriate PPE.
    • Lead initiatives to promote a culture of safety within the team, ensuring that electrical work is conducted without risk of injury or damage.
    • Ensure that all equipment is safely installed, maintained, and tested in compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  7. Project Management and Coordination:

    • Oversee electrical projects from planning to execution, ensuring that deadlines, budgets, and specifications are met.
    • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that electrical system designs align with project goals and requirements.
    • Track project progress, identify any potential delays, and take corrective actions to ensure timely completion.
  8. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of electrical system installations, maintenance, repairs, and performance tests.
    • Prepare detailed reports for management, clients, or regulatory bodies on system performance, maintenance activities, and compliance with standards.
    • Ensure that all work orders, service requests, and inspection results are documented and tracked for audit purposes.
  9. Collaboration with Other Departments:

    • Work closely with engineering, operations, and production teams to address electrical system challenges and integrate new technologies.
    • Provide electrical expertise in cross-functional projects, such as system upgrades, automation, or process optimization.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for electrical-related issues within the organization or with external contractors.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Advanced knowledge of electrical systems, components, and troubleshooting techniques, including circuit boards, motors, PLCs, control systems, and automation.
  • Expertise in electrical system installation, maintenance, repair, and optimization, with the ability to manage complex electrical projects.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools, testing instruments, and equipment used in electrical troubleshooting (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, power analyzers).
  • In-depth understanding of electrical codes, safety regulations, and industry standards (e.g., NEC, IEC, NFPA).
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in managing and mentoring a team of electrical technicians.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues and ensure minimal downtime.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with team members, management, clients, and other departments effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Relevant electrical certifications or licenses (e.g., Master Electrician, National Electrical Code certification) are preferred.
  • Additional certifications in safety, project management, or PLC programming would be a plus.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Power Distribution Networks

  • Leading the installation, maintenance, and optimization of complex power distribution systems, ensuring high efficiency and reliability.
  • SCADA and PLC Systems

  • Overseeing the programming, integration, and advanced troubleshooting of SCADA and PLC systems, ensuring seamless functionality within electrical networks.
  • Electrical Safety Standards and Codes (IEC, NEC)

  • Driving strict adherence to IEC, NEC, and other safety standards, conducting advanced safety audits, and mentoring teams on best safety practices.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in electrical systems, including hands-on experience with electrical installations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Proven experience in leading and mentoring electrical teams and managing large-scale electrical projects.
  • Experience working with industrial or commercial electrical systems, including high-voltage systems, control panels, and PLCs.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency in using electrical diagnostic and testing tools (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, insulation testers, circuit analyzers).
  • Familiarity with industrial automation systems, PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell), and control systems.
  • Experience with maintenance management software (e.g., CMMS) for tracking work orders and managing projects.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Willingness to work outside of regular hours when necessary, including on-call or emergency repair situations.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and perform physical tasks as required.
