Job Title: Electrical Technician

Job Summary:

The Junior Electrical Technician is responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment. This role requires hands-on involvement with electrical wiring, circuit boards, motors, electrical panels, and other components. The Junior Technician will work under the supervision of senior technicians to ensure the proper functioning of electrical systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and develop expertise in electrical systems and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Electrical Installations:

    • Assist in the installation of electrical systems, including wiring, electrical panels, switches, outlets, lighting, and other electrical components.
    • Help install and connect electrical circuits, ensuring that all connections are secure and meet technical specifications and safety standards.
    • Ensure correct placement and installation of electrical systems, following blueprints, technical diagrams, and manufacturer guidelines.
  2. Maintenance and Repair:

    • Assist with routine maintenance tasks such as inspecting electrical systems, replacing faulty components, and performing preventive maintenance.
    • Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues in circuits, motors, electrical panels, and other components under the guidance of senior technicians.
    • Support in diagnosing problems in electrical systems using appropriate tools (e.g., multimeters, circuit testers) and following established troubleshooting methods.
  3. System Testing and Calibration:

    • Assist in testing electrical systems and components after installation or repairs to ensure functionality and compliance with safety standards.
    • Help with the calibration of electrical systems and perform tests to measure voltage, current, and other electrical parameters to verify system performance.
    • Document test results, note any issues or malfunctions, and report findings to senior technicians.
  4. Safety Compliance:

    • Follow electrical safety protocols and guidelines when performing work to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.
    • Ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during electrical installations, maintenance, and repairs.
    • Adhere to electrical codes and standards, including local regulations (e.g., NEC, IEC) to ensure that work is done safely and within legal requirements.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of installations, maintenance tasks, and repairs completed, ensuring all work is properly documented.
    • Help prepare reports and checklists for the status of electrical systems and completed tasks.
    • Ensure that service reports are submitted in a timely manner to senior staff or management.
  6. Learning and Development:

    • Continuously learn from senior technicians and engineers to improve technical knowledge and skills in electrical systems.
    • Participate in on-the-job training, workshops, and other learning opportunities to develop electrical expertise and keep up-to-date with industry trends.
    • Learn to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and system diagrams to understand complex systems.
  7. Team Collaboration and Support:

    • Work alongside senior technicians and other team members to complete installation and maintenance tasks in an efficient and timely manner.
    • Communicate with team members to address any issues and ensure proper execution of tasks.
    • Provide assistance during large projects or breakdowns, offering support as needed to meet project goals.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits, components, and wiring.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards and best practices.
  • Familiarity with using electrical tools and testing equipment such as multimeters, insulation resistance testers, and circuit testers.
  • Ability to follow technical diagrams and blueprints for electrical systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in electrical work.
  • Basic troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for electrical systems and components.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and take instructions from senior technicians.

Educational Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with coursework or training in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or related fields.
  • Certification or diploma in electrical technology, electrical engineering, or a related field is a plus.
  • Basic electrical safety certifications (e.g., OSHA 10 or equivalent) are a plus but not required.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Power Distribution Networks

  • Assisting in the installation, maintenance, and repair of power distribution systems to ensure efficiency and reliability.
  • SCADA and PLC Systems

  • Performing basic programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance of SCADA and PLC systems.
  • Electrical Safety Standards and Codes (IEC, NEC)

  • Ensuring compliance with IEC, NEC, and other safety standards during electrical installations and maintenance tasks.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in electrical systems, electrical maintenance, or related work.
  • Previous experience through internships, technical school projects, or hands-on work with electrical systems is advantageous but not required.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with electrical testing equipment such as multimeters, circuit testers, and clamp meters.
  • Experience with hand tools (e.g., screwdrivers, pliers) and power tools (e.g., drills, saws).
  • Basic knowledge of electrical circuit simulation or CAD tools is a plus but not required.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong willingness to learn, follow instructions, and grow within the electrical field.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting equipment, working in confined spaces, and standing for extended periods.
  • Good communication skills for collaborating with team members and reporting to senior staff.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours or overtime when required, especially in emergency situations or during projects.
