Job Title: Electrical Systems Calibration Technician
Job Summary:
The Senior Electrical Systems Calibration Technician is responsible for leading the calibration, testing, and optimization of electrical systems and instruments in industrial, commercial, or manufacturing environments. This role involves taking a leadership position in calibration activities, troubleshooting complex issues, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of electrical systems, and mentoring junior technicians. The Senior Technician will collaborate with engineering teams, oversee calibration processes, manage complex calibration projects, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Calibration Activities:
- Lead the calibration of electrical systems, instruments, and equipment, ensuring that all systems are functioning accurately and according to industry standards.
- Develop and oversee calibration processes, methods, and procedures to ensure high accuracy and consistency across all electrical systems.
- Perform advanced calibration of electrical systems, such as transformers, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, and power meters, ensuring performance and compliance.
Troubleshooting and Complex Problem Solving:
- Provide expert troubleshooting and diagnostic support for complex electrical calibration issues in a wide range of systems, including power distribution, control systems, and instrumentation.
- Use advanced diagnostic tools (e.g., thermal imaging, high-precision meters, oscilloscopes) to troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues, improving system reliability.
- Lead the investigation of root causes for recurring system problems, implementing corrective actions and strategies for long-term improvement.
System Optimization and Performance Monitoring:
- Collaborate with engineers to optimize the performance of electrical systems by analyzing calibration data and implementing changes to improve system efficiency.
- Use performance monitoring data to assess system conditions, recommend improvements, and drive continuous optimization initiatives.
- Work with cross-functional teams to ensure that electrical systems perform optimally, minimizing downtime and maximizing efficiency.
Mentorship and Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor a team of calibration technicians, providing guidance, training, and technical support to improve their skills and capabilities.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to junior and mid-level technicians, ensuring all calibration work is completed accurately and safely.
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, encouraging knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and adherence to best practices.
Safety and Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure that all calibration activities and electrical maintenance comply with industry safety standards, electrical codes (e.g., NEC, IEC), and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, NFPA).
- Maintain a strong focus on electrical safety and environmental health, ensuring that calibration work is performed using proper safety protocols and risk assessments.
- Lead safety audits and participate in safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and promoting safe working practices.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of calibration activities, including test results, equipment performance, corrective actions taken, and any issues encountered during testing.
- Prepare and review comprehensive calibration reports, ensuring they meet company standards, are accurate, and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure proper documentation of calibration procedures and ensure that records are available for internal audits and future reference.
Project Management and Coordination:
- Manage and coordinate complex calibration projects, ensuring that tasks are completed on schedule, within scope, and within budget.
- Work with project managers, engineers, and external contractors to ensure that electrical systems meet design specifications and performance expectations.
- Plan and execute calibration activities for large-scale projects, overseeing all aspects of calibration from preparation to completion.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for enhancing calibration procedures, optimizing performance, and reducing downtime.
- Stay informed about the latest technologies and industry trends in electrical calibration and testing, integrating new tools and methodologies to improve performance.
- Lead the adoption of new calibration tools, technologies, and techniques to increase accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
- Work closely with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to ensure the seamless integration of calibration activities within broader operational workflows.
- Provide technical input and support during design and engineering phases of new projects to ensure that calibration requirements are considered from the outset.
- Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to source necessary equipment and ensure the timely delivery of calibration materials.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, calibration processes, and testing procedures.
- Extensive experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting complex electrical issues and systems.
- Strong proficiency with calibration tools and diagnostic instruments, including oscilloscopes, power meters, thermography cameras, and multimeters.
- Comprehensive understanding of electrical safety standards, regulatory requirements (e.g., NEC, IEC, OSHA), and best practices.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, control diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to perform root cause analysis for recurring issues.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills to guide and develop junior and mid-level technicians.

Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related field.
- Advanced certifications in electrical calibration, electrical safety, or industrial instrumentation (e.g., Six Sigma, OSHA, NEC, Siemens, Rockwell).
- Additional certifications in project management or control systems are advantageous.
Experience:
- 5-7 years of experience in electrical calibration, troubleshooting, and system optimization within industrial or manufacturing environments.
- Proven experience leading and managing calibration projects, with a focus on performance optimization and system reliability.
- Strong background in electrical systems, industrial controls, and the ability to lead calibration activities for complex systems.
Tools and Technologies:
- Expertise with electrical diagnostic and testing tools (e.g., multimeters, insulation testers, power analyzers, thermal imaging cameras).
- Familiarity with calibration management software (e.g., CMMS) for scheduling, tracking, and reporting on calibration activities.
- Experience with industrial control systems (e.g., PLCs, SCADA) and instrumentation calibration.
- Knowledge of energy management tools and calibration techniques for optimizing system performance.
