Electrical Site In-Charge

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Role Purpose

Lead all site electrical works—from planning and installation to testing & commissioning and handover—ensuring compliance with project specs, SEWA and UAE Fire & Life Safety Code requirements, delivered safely, on time, and with full documentation, while accounting for Sharjah weather and traffic/logistics constraints.

Typical Category-3 Electrical Scope

LV distribution (415/230V) MDB/SMDB/DBs; final circuits; earthing & lightning protection; containment (tray/trunking/conduit); wiring devices; emergency & exit lighting; small power for HVAC/FA/FF; lift power (if in scope); façade/landscape lighting; fire alarm interface; meter room/cabinet to SEWA standards; optional standby generator/UPS if specified.

Key Responsibilities

    Planning & Coordination

  • Review IFC/shop drawings, load schedules, SLD, and builder’s work; raise RFIs for clashes/clarifications.

  • Develop 2/4/12-week look-ahead plans aligned with civil progress, procurement, inspections, and SEWA milestones.

  • Coordinate routes, openings, sleeves, and firestopping with civil/MEP; protect egress and access.

    Installation Supervision

  • Oversee installation of containment (tray/trunking/conduit) to approved supports and spacing; verify segregation/derating.

  • Supervise cabling (pulling, dressing, glanding/termination, labeling); ensure bend radii, torque, and ferruling standards.

  • Manage assembly/installation of MDB/SMDB/DBs, contactors, relays, and control wiring; verify IP ratings and clearances.

  • Ensure earthing/Lightning Protection compliance: earth pits, bonds, resistance tests, equipotential bonding in wet areas.

  • Control emergency/exit lighting placement and circuiting; coordinate FA interfaces (E/M relays, shutdowns).

  • Monitor installation for lifts, HVAC, pumps, and small power per nameplate/isolator requirements.

   QA/QC & Inspections

  • Implement method statements/ITPs; manage MIR/WIR submissions and consultant inspections.

  • Check workmanship/tolerances; audit cable IDs, phase sequence, labeling, and panel schedules.

  • Maintain red-line as-built mark-ups daily.

    Testing, Commissioning & Handover

  • Lead pre-commissioning & T&C: insulation resistance & continuity, earth resistance, polarity, RCD/RCBO tests, functional tests of panels/controls, lux & emergency duration tests, generator (if any) start/transfer, and integrated cause-&-effect with Fire Alarm.

  • Coordinate TAB dependencies with HVAC where needed; clear snags promptly.

  • Compile handover pack: test certificates, data sheets, O&M manuals, spare parts lists, training records.

    Authorities & SEWA Interface

  • Support SEWA submissions (SLD, load sheet, meter room layouts); witness inspections, meter installation, and energization.

  • Ensure meter room/cabinet, clearances, ventilation, and signage are per standards.

    Materials, Subcontractors & Cost

  • Validate material approvals; track deliveries and storage (IP/integrity).

  • Control subcontractor productivity, daily targets, and variation records.

   HSE & Site Controls

  • Enforce LOTO, live-work prohibitions, hot-work permits (where applicable), and safe ladder/MEWP use.

  • Toolbox talks: electrical shock, arc-flash basics, manual handling of cable drums, working at height, housekeeping.

Weather & Traffic Considerations (Sharjah/UAE)

  • Heat & Humidity: Schedule roof/external works early morning/evening; comply with MOHRE summer midday break. Account for cable derating and ventilation in meter/electrical rooms; avoid terminating on overheated busbars; extend cure times for sealants/adhesives.

  • Dust/Sand: Keep panels sealed; install filters where ventilated; clean terminations before testing; protect open conduits and devices.

  • Occasional Rain/Coastal Influence: Weatherproof all roof penetrations and luminaires; use corrosion-resistant fixings where specified; confirm IP ratings at façades and balconies.

  • Traffic & Logistics: Plan off-peak/night deliveries for switchgear/cable drums; arrange SRTA/Police permits if crane/road occupation is needed; stage materials near work fronts without overloading slabs; keep inspection routes clear.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/Diploma in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).

  • 7–10+ years site electrical experience (min 3 years UAE/GCC), including residential/commercial mid-rise.

  • Strong knowledge of SEWA requirements, UAE Fire & Life Safety interfaces, and relevant standards (project-specified IEC/BS/NEC).

  • Proficient with AutoCAD mark-ups, MS Project/Primavera (read), and standard test instruments.

  • English required; Arabic an advantage. Valid UAE driving license preferred.

Tools & Test Equipment (Typical)

Insulation tester/megger, multimeter/clamp meter, earth tester, RCD tester, lux meter, continuity testers, torque wrench, labelers, crimpers, cable puller/rollers, ladders/MEWP, PPE (arc-rated as applicable).

Core Competencies

  • Programme-driven coordination & problem-solving

  • Clean terminations and documentation discipline

  • Authority liaison & inspection readiness

  • HSE leadership and crew management

  • Quality mindset (first-time-pass culture)

KPIs

  • First-time pass on consultant/SEWA inspections.

  • T&C completed to programme; emergency/exit lighting and FA interfaces pass integrated tests.

  • NCRs/snags closed within SLA; zero repeat defects.

  • Accurate as-builts/O&M accepted on first submission.

  • Zero lost-time incidents; compliance with midday break and site traffic plan.
