Job Title: Electrical Maintenance Engineer

Job Summary:

The Senior Electrical Maintenance Engineer is responsible for leading the maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization, and strategic management of electrical systems and equipment within industrial, commercial, or manufacturing environments. This role involves overseeing the operation of critical electrical systems, providing technical leadership, and implementing maintenance strategies to ensure the optimal performance and longevity of electrical infrastructure. The Senior Engineer will manage a team of engineers, work closely with cross-functional teams, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards while driving continuous improvements in maintenance processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Electrical System Strategy and Optimization:

    • Lead the strategy, design, and implementation of electrical system maintenance programs to optimize performance, reliability, and efficiency.
    • Develop and oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance schedules for all electrical systems, including motors, transformers, control panels, PLCs, and other critical equipment.
    • Identify opportunities for system upgrades and optimization, implementing improvements to enhance system performance, energy efficiency, and operational uptime.
    • Collaborate with senior management to develop long-term strategies for electrical system reliability and sustainability.
  2. Team Leadership and Management:

    • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of electrical maintenance engineers and technicians, providing guidance on troubleshooting, repairs, and best practices.
    • Ensure the team has the necessary resources and training to perform maintenance activities effectively and safely.
    • Delegate tasks effectively, monitor team performance, and ensure that maintenance work meets quality, safety, and compliance standards.
    • Provide technical leadership, making critical decisions regarding complex electrical issues and system troubleshooting.
  3. Troubleshooting and Complex Issue Resolution:

    • Provide expert troubleshooting and support for complex electrical issues, from component failures to system-wide malfunctions.
    • Lead investigations into recurring system problems, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term corrective actions.
    • Develop and maintain strategies to minimize electrical downtime and extend the lifespan of critical equipment by using diagnostic tools and techniques.
    • Oversee the repair and replacement of electrical equipment, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  4. Safety and Compliance Management:

    • Ensure all electrical systems and maintenance practices comply with safety standards, electrical codes (e.g., NEC, IEC), and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, NFPA).
    • Lead safety initiatives, ensuring that maintenance staff adheres to lock-out/tag-out procedures, proper PPE use, and all safety protocols during maintenance activities.
    • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and mitigate risks in electrical systems.
    • Promote a culture of safety across the team, providing training and leading safety drills to maintain high safety standards.
  5. Project Management and Execution:

    • Lead electrical maintenance projects, including system upgrades, new installations, and large-scale repairs, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required specifications.
    • Coordinate resources, timelines, and budgets for electrical projects, ensuring alignment with broader operational goals.
    • Collaborate with other engineering teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure successful execution of electrical projects, including the selection and installation of new equipment.
  6. Maintenance and Performance Monitoring:

    • Develop and implement systems for monitoring the performance of electrical systems, collecting data to evaluate system efficiency, reliability, and performance.
    • Use performance monitoring tools to identify trends and areas for improvement, addressing potential issues before they cause system failures.
    • Drive initiatives to optimize energy consumption and reduce operational costs related to electrical systems.
  7. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of electrical maintenance activities, repairs, modifications, and inspections.
    • Prepare and present regular reports on electrical system performance, maintenance activities, project progress, and safety compliance for senior management.
    • Ensure that all technical documentation, schematics, and operational manuals are up to date and readily accessible for troubleshooting, audits, and system upgrades.
  8. Budgeting and Resource Management:

    • Oversee the electrical maintenance budget, ensuring that costs are managed effectively and that resources are allocated efficiently.
    • Track expenditures related to electrical systems maintenance, including parts, labor, and equipment, and make recommendations for cost-saving measures.
    • Manage the procurement and inventory of spare parts, ensuring that critical components are readily available to avoid delays in maintenance.
  9. Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:

    • Work closely with operations, production, and engineering teams to ensure that electrical maintenance schedules do not disrupt production and that critical systems are available when needed.
    • Collaborate with external vendors and contractors to source components and secure services required for electrical maintenance tasks.
    • Coordinate with management to align maintenance schedules with overall business goals and operational priorities.
  10. Technology and Innovation Leadership:

    • Stay informed on the latest technological advancements and innovations in electrical systems and maintenance tools.
    • Lead the adoption of new technologies and methodologies to enhance system reliability, improve efficiency, and reduce maintenance costs.
    • Encourage and support the use of automation and data analytics tools for predictive maintenance and system monitoring.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, including high- and low-voltage systems, motors, control panels, circuit breakers, transformers, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving complex electrical issues in industrial environments.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety standards, codes (e.g., NEC, IEC), and regulations (e.g., OSHA, NFPA).
  • Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools such as multimeters, insulation testers, thermal imaging cameras, and other electrical test equipment.
  • Experience with industrial control systems (e.g., PLCs, SCADA, HMI) and integration with electrical systems.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and technicians.
  • Advanced problem-solving and root cause analysis skills for complex electrical and control system issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications in electrical systems, safety, or industrial maintenance (e.g., Six Sigma, OSHA, NEC, Siemens, Rockwell) are highly desirable.
  • Additional certifications or training in project management or advanced maintenance techniques are a plus.

  • Power Distribution Networks

  • Leading the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of complex power distribution systems to ensure maximum reliability and efficiency.
  • SCADA and PLC Systems

  • Overseeing advanced diagnostics, programming, and upgrades of SCADA and PLC systems, ensuring seamless integration with electrical networks.
  • Electrical Safety Standards and Codes (IEC, NEC)

  • Driving compliance with IEC, NEC, and global safety standards, conducting in-depth safety assessments, and mentoring teams on safety protocols and best practices.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and system optimization in industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Proven experience in managing electrical maintenance teams, overseeing large-scale electrical projects, and improving system performance.
  • Strong background in leading complex electrical troubleshooting efforts, implementing preventive maintenance strategies, and overseeing system upgrades.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency with electrical diagnostic and testing tools (e.g., multimeters, insulation testers, thermal cameras).
  • Experience with maintenance management software (e.g., CMMS) for scheduling, tracking, and reporting on electrical maintenance tasks.
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems (e.g., PLCs, SCADA) and communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
  • Experience with energy management and optimization tools is advantageous.
