Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer
Job Summary:
The Junior Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems, including power distribution networks, SCADA systems, and PLC-based automation systems. This role involves assisting senior engineers with electrical system control, monitoring, and ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulatory codes such as IEC and NEC. The Junior Engineer will help develop electrical system designs, perform basic testing, assist with troubleshooting, and ensure systems operate safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical System Design and Development:
- Assist in the design and development of electrical systems for control, monitoring, and power distribution.
- Work with senior engineers to design circuit layouts, wiring diagrams, and select electrical components for various systems.
- Contribute to the design of power distribution systems, ensuring that electrical load requirements are met and systems are efficient.
SCADA and PLC Systems:
- Support the design, configuration, and implementation of SCADA and PLC systems used for automation in electrical control applications.
- Assist in programming PLCs (e.g., ladder logic) and developing user interfaces for SCADA systems under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Participate in integrating electrical control systems with SCADA for monitoring, controlling, and analyzing system performance.
Power Distribution Network Design:
- Assist in designing electrical power distribution networks, ensuring proper ratings for components such as transformers, switchboards, and circuit breakers.
- Help calculate load and capacity requirements for different systems and recommend suitable equipment based on design specifications.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to assess power distribution system efficiency and ensure compliance with electrical standards and safety regulations.
Electrical System Testing and Troubleshooting:
- Support the testing and troubleshooting of electrical systems to ensure they function according to design specifications and safety standards.
- Assist in the identification of electrical faults, and contribute to the development of solutions for resolving issues that affect system performance.
- Help prepare and execute tests to validate electrical system functionality, ensuring all performance and safety standards are met.
Electrical Safety and Regulatory Compliance:
- Assist in ensuring electrical designs comply with industry safety standards and regulatory codes, including IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and NEC (National Electrical Code).
- Support senior engineers in maintaining compliance with local and international electrical safety regulations during system design and installation phases.
- Contribute to the documentation of safety protocols and quality checks for electrical systems.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Create and maintain technical documentation for electrical systems, including design specifications, test results, and maintenance procedures.
- Assist in preparing detailed reports for electrical system performance, testing, troubleshooting, and system modifications.
- Ensure all electrical system documentation is accurately recorded and compliant with internal and external quality standards.
Learning and Development:
- Continuously improve knowledge of electrical engineering principles, SCADA, PLC systems, and industry standards.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to develop proficiency in the latest technologies and methodologies used in electrical system design.
- Stay updated with developments in electrical safety standards, automation technologies, and electrical system design trends.
Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with senior engineers and other team members to complete electrical system design projects.
- Assist in the collaboration with cross-functional teams (e.g., mechanical engineers, project managers) to ensure system designs meet project objectives and client requirements.
- Provide basic technical support for system installations and help troubleshoot operational issues.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Basic understanding of electrical system design, including power distribution, PLC, SCADA, and electrical control systems.
- Familiarity with electrical components such as circuit breakers, transformers, and wiring systems used in power distribution.
- Knowledge of PLC programming (e.g., ladder logic, function block diagram) and SCADA systems for electrical control.
- Understanding of electrical safety standards and codes (IEC, NEC) applicable to electrical system design.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in identifying and addressing technical issues.
- Basic proficiency with electrical design software tools, such as AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, or similar design platforms.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team of engineers and technicians in a fast-paced environment.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Coursework or certifications in PLC programming, SCADA systems, electrical safety, or power distribution is a plus.

Tools and Technologies:
- Familiarity with electrical design tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, Revit, etc.) and simulation software.
- Exposure to PLC programming tools (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000).
- Knowledge of SCADA software platforms (e.g., Wonderware, Ignition, FactoryTalk).
- Basic experience with data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, MATLAB) for electrical system performance evaluation.
