Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer

Job Summary:

The Electrical Design Engineer (Fresher) is responsible for assisting in the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems control and monitoring, power distribution networks, and automation systems using SCADA and PLC systems. This role provides an excellent opportunity to work on various aspects of electrical system design and implementation, ensuring they meet safety standards and regulatory codes, such as IEC and NEC. The engineer will work under the guidance of senior engineers to support the development of electrical systems, ensuring they are efficient, reliable, and compliant with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Electrical System Design and Development:

    • Assist in the design and development of electrical systems for control and monitoring applications.
    • Support the creation of electrical designs for power distribution networks, including designing circuit layouts, wiring diagrams, and selecting appropriate electrical components.
    • Assist in the development of SCADA and PLC systems for automating and controlling electrical systems in various industries (e.g., power plants, manufacturing facilities).
  2. Control and Monitoring Systems:

    • Assist in the design and implementation of electrical systems used for controlling and monitoring operations.
    • Collaborate with senior engineers to design electrical control circuits, including motor control systems, relays, and switching equipment.
    • Help implement data acquisition and monitoring solutions for electrical systems, ensuring real-time performance tracking and diagnostics.
  3. Power Distribution Network Design:

    • Assist in the design of power distribution networks, ensuring that they are safe, efficient, and able to meet operational power requirements.
    • Work on the development of electrical infrastructure, including transformers, switchboards, circuit breakers, and other components used in power distribution systems.
    • Perform calculations to determine appropriate ratings for electrical equipment and assess load requirements to ensure optimal system performance.
  4. SCADA and PLC Systems:

    • Support the design, configuration, and troubleshooting of SCADA and PLC systems for electrical control applications.
    • Assist in programming basic PLC systems using ladder logic, function blocks, or other programming languages commonly used in industrial automation.
    • Collaborate with the automation team to ensure the integration of electrical systems with SCADA systems for effective control and monitoring.
  5. Electrical Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure that electrical designs meet industry safety standards and codes, including IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and NEC (National Electrical Code).
    • Assist in the preparation of electrical safety documentation, including risk assessments and hazard analyses.
    • Help implement electrical safety protocols in designs, ensuring that electrical systems adhere to safety regulations and minimize hazards.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Prepare detailed design documentation, including technical drawings, specifications, and reports for electrical systems.
    • Maintain accurate records of design changes, material specifications, and project progress.
    • Assist in preparing documentation for project proposals, technical specifications, and system design approvals.
  7. Learning and Development:

    • Continuously learn about new technologies, design methodologies, and industry trends in electrical engineering.
    • Participate in internal and external training programs to enhance technical knowledge in SCADA systems, PLC programming, electrical safety, and power distribution networks.
    • Stay updated on the latest changes in electrical safety standards and codes (IEC, NEC) and incorporate them into designs.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of electrical systems design and control, including power distribution, PLCs, SCADA systems, and monitoring technologies.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards and codes (IEC, NEC) relevant to electrical system design.
  • Familiarity with electrical control systems, including motor control, relay systems, and switching components.
  • Understanding of power distribution components such as transformers, switchgear, and circuit breakers.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and PLC programming languages (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text) is advantageous.
  • Ability to use CAD software for electrical design, such as AutoCAD, or specialized tools for electrical design and simulation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot electrical system issues.
  • Good communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and document design processes effectively.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Coursework or certifications in SCADA systems, PLC programming, electrical safety standards, or power distribution is a plus.

Experience:

  • No prior professional experience required; internships, academic projects, or practical training in electrical design, automation, or power systems are beneficial.
  • Experience with electrical system design tools, CAD software, and basic PLC programming through academic projects is a plus.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, or other electrical design tools).
  • Exposure to PLC programming tools (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley Studio 5000) and SCADA system software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of simulation tools for electrical systems (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink) is beneficial.
