This role involves ensuring the functionality and reliability of critical systems, such as turbines, generators, boilers, SCADA, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and safety mechanisms. The engineer works independently on routine tasks while contributing to complex commissioning activities under the guidance of senior engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

Commissioning and Testing:

  • Perform commissioning tasks for power plant systems, including electrical equipment, control panels, and auxiliary systems.
  • Conduct detailed testing and verification of SCADA, DCS, and safety systems to ensure compliance with operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to execute test protocols for turbines, generators, and boilers.

System Calibration and Optimization:

  • Configure and calibrate instrumentation and control systems for optimal performance.
  • Verify control logic and interlocks to ensure seamless integration with operational processes.
  • Support system tuning activities to enhance reliability and efficiency.

Monitoring and Troubleshooting:

  • Monitor system performance during initial operations, identifying and resolving technical issues.
  • Assist in root cause analysis and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Document and report findings to support system optimization efforts.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, industry regulations, and organizational protocols during commissioning activities.
  • Participate in safety risk assessments and contribute to the mitigation of potential hazards.
  • Conduct periodic testing of emergency shutdown systems to ensure readiness.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare detailed logs of commissioning activities, including test results and identified issues.
  • Contribute to the creation of technical documentation, such as system handover reports and performance evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate records of system configurations and calibration settings.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, and safety departments, to achieve project goals.
  • Provide technical support during the transition of commissioned systems to operational teams.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and recommendations.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Power Generation Control Systems: Oversee commissioning of turbines, generators, and boilers to ensure operational readiness.
  • SCADA and Distributed Control Systems (DCS): Support configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of SCADA/DCS platforms.
  • Thermal and Nuclear Plant Control Systems: Assist in commissioning activities specific to thermal and nuclear plant control systems.
  • Safety and Emergency Shutdown Systems: Test and verify the functionality of safety systems and implement corrective measures as needed.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Proficient understanding of electrical systems, instrumentation, and power plant operations.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, DCS, and industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, HART, and Profibus.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills for diagnosing and addressing system issues.
  • Strong knowledge of safety standards, such as IEC, ISA, and relevant regulatory guidelines.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, such as wiring diagrams and P&IDs.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications or training in SCADA/DCS systems or power plant operations are highly desirable.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in commissioning, testing, or maintaining electrical and control systems in power plants or similar industries.
  • Hands-on experience with testing and calibrating instrumentation systems is advantageous.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency in tools like multimeters, loop calibrators, oscilloscopes, and signal analyzers.
  • Familiarity with software platforms such as Siemens TIA Portal, Honeywell Experion, or ABB DCS systems.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse teams.
  • Ability to manage tasks independently while ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
