Job Title: Electrical Commissioning Engineer (Power Plants)

Job Summary:

The Fresher Electrical Commissioning Engineer is responsible for supporting the commissioning and testing of electrical and control systems in power plants. The role involves working under the guidance of senior engineers to ensure the proper functionality of systems such as turbines, generators, boilers, SCADA, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and safety mechanisms. The focus is on learning and applying knowledge to ensure the safe and efficient startup of power generation systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Commissioning and Testing:

  • Assist in the commissioning and startup of electrical systems, including turbines, generators, and boilers.
  • Perform basic functionality tests for SCADA and DCS systems under supervision.
  • Support the testing and verification of safety and emergency shutdown systems to ensure compliance with operational standards.

System Calibration and Configuration:

  • Assist in the calibration and configuration of instrumentation and control systems for optimal performance.
  • Work with senior engineers to ensure control logic aligns with operational requirements.
  • Help verify the integration of electrical systems with mechanical and process components.

Monitoring and Troubleshooting:

  • Monitor system performance during initial operations to identify potential issues.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts to resolve basic problems in instrumentation and control systems.
  • Document findings and share with senior engineers for further analysis.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Follow safety protocols and adhere to industry regulations during commissioning activities.
  • Assist in identifying and mitigating potential hazards in electrical systems.
  • Participate in safety drills and training sessions to build foundational knowledge of emergency procedures.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain logs of commissioning activities, including tests conducted and issues identified.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports on system performance and commissioning results.
  • Support the creation of documentation for handover to operations and maintenance teams.

Learning and Development:

  • Attend training sessions on power plant systems, including SCADA, DCS, and safety systems.
  • Develop a foundational understanding of thermal and nuclear plant control systems.
  • Gain exposure to industry standards, including IEC, ISA, and safety regulations.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Power Generation Control Systems: Assist in commissioning control systems for turbines, generators, and boilers.
  • SCADA and Distributed Control Systems (DCS): Support configuration and testing of SCADA and DCS systems.
  • Thermal and Nuclear Plant Control Systems: Learn about and assist in commissioning control systems specific to thermal and nuclear power plants.
  • Safety and Emergency Shutdown Systems: Participate in testing and verifying the functionality of safety systems.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and instrumentation, including sensors and actuators.
  • Familiarity with control systems such as SCADA and DCS is advantageous.
  • Awareness of safety standards and protocols in industrial environments.
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills to support commissioning activities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools for reporting and documentation.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Basic training or certification in power plant systems or SCADA/DCS is a plus.

Experience:

  • No prior experience required; internships or academic projects related to power generation systems are beneficial.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Exposure to basic diagnostic tools such as multimeters, loop calibrators, and signal generators.
  • Familiarity with SCADA/DCS software platforms is an advantage.
