Job Title: Electrical Calibration Engineer

Job Summary:

The Electrical Calibration Engineer Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the calibration and testing of electrical equipment, systems, and instruments to ensure they meet the required accuracy and performance standards. This role involves managing a team of calibration engineers, developing and implementing calibration procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The Manager will also be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the calibration department, coordinating calibration schedules, ensuring customer satisfaction, and maintaining the highest level of technical proficiency and accuracy in all calibration activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Team Leadership and Management:

    • Lead and manage a team of calibration engineers and technicians, providing guidance, support, and training to ensure high-quality calibration services.
    • Set goals and objectives for the calibration team, ensuring they meet the required standards of performance, accuracy, and efficiency.
    • Conduct performance evaluations, offer feedback, and foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
    • Promote teamwork, collaboration, and best practices within the calibration department and across other teams.
  2. Calibration Procedures and Standards:

    • Develop, implement, and maintain calibration procedures, methods, and standards in accordance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
    • Ensure calibration processes meet national and international standards (e.g., ISO 17025, IEC, ANSI) and comply with customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
    • Establish and continuously improve calibration protocols, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and traceability of results.
    • Ensure that calibration equipment is regularly maintained, calibrated, and meets performance standards.
  3. Project Management and Scheduling:

    • Oversee the calibration scheduling, prioritizing tasks based on project timelines, customer needs, and internal requirements.
    • Coordinate and manage the execution of calibration projects, ensuring that all work is completed on time and meets the required specifications.
    • Monitor and track the progress of calibration activities, resolving any issues or delays in a timely manner.
    • Ensure efficient use of resources (e.g., staff, equipment, tools) to meet customer and organizational requirements.
  4. Compliance and Quality Assurance:

    • Ensure the calibration department is in compliance with relevant safety, quality, and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 17025, regulatory audits).
    • Oversee internal and external quality audits, ensuring calibration processes and equipment meet industry standards.
    • Manage the documentation and reporting of calibration activities, ensuring that all results are recorded accurately and meet regulatory requirements.
    • Review and approve calibration certificates, reports, and documentation to ensure they are complete, accurate, and meet customer specifications.
  5. Customer Interaction and Technical Support:

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding calibration services, addressing inquiries, providing technical support, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
    • Communicate complex technical information regarding calibration methods, results, and recommendations to clients in a clear and concise manner.
    • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships, ensuring all calibration services meet or exceed client expectations.
    • Provide guidance and troubleshooting support to clients on calibration-related issues and offer recommendations for improvements.
  6. Continuous Improvement and Innovation:

    • Identify opportunities for process improvements, focusing on enhancing calibration efficiency, accuracy, and service quality.
    • Lead initiatives to adopt new technologies, tools, and methods to improve calibration processes and capabilities.
    • Stay up-to-date with advancements in electrical calibration technology and industry standards, ensuring that the calibration department remains at the forefront of innovation.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring that the team is always striving for better performance and quality outcomes.
  7. Budget and Resource Management:

    • Manage the calibration department's budget, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and efficiently to meet operational goals.
    • Oversee the procurement and maintenance of calibration equipment, tools, and software, ensuring that they are calibrated, maintained, and functioning properly.
    • Ensure compliance with budgetary constraints while maintaining high levels of quality and service.
  8. Training and Development:

    • Develop and implement training programs for calibration engineers and technicians to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform calibration tasks effectively.
    • Provide ongoing training on new calibration techniques, technologies, and standards.
    • Encourage the professional development of team members, helping them to acquire relevant certifications and advance in their careers.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Extensive experience in electrical calibration and testing of electrical equipment, instruments, and systems.
  • Strong understanding of calibration standards (e.g., ISO 17025, IEC 61010, ANSI, NIST) and regulatory requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical measurement techniques, testing equipment, and calibration methods.
  • Proven experience in managing and leading teams of engineers and technicians, including setting goals, providing mentorship, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex calibration issues and provide effective solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical information to clients and team members clearly.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and coordinate projects efficiently.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications in electrical calibration, quality management, or related fields (e.g., ISO 17025 Lead Auditor, Six Sigma) are preferred.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Power Distribution Networks

  • Managing and optimizing the calibration processes for instruments and devices in power distribution networks to ensure system accuracy and efficiency.
  • SCADA and PLC Systems

  • Overseeing the calibration, integration, and troubleshooting of SCADA and PLC systems to maintain precise control and automation.
  • Electrical Safety Standards and Codes (IEC, NEC)

  • Ensuring compliance with IEC, NEC, and other safety standards in all calibration activities, and implementing organizational safety protocols.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in electrical calibration, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Proven experience in managing calibration processes for electrical systems, including the use of calibration equipment and software.
  • Extensive experience with quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and managing technical teams.
  • Experience with managing client relationships and delivering high-quality services.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency with calibration instruments, such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and other electrical measurement tools.
  • Experience with calibration management software (e.g., GAGEtrak, TME, MetCal) and data analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS) and documentation software.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a team toward high-performance outcomes.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites, supplier locations, and other facilities as required.
