Job Title: ELV Technician

Job Summary:

The ELV Technician Supervisor is responsible for managing a team of ELV technicians to oversee the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. These systems include CCTV, access control, fire alarms, intercoms, public address (PA) systems, and home automation solutions. The Supervisor will lead day-to-day operations, ensure the successful execution of projects, and provide guidance to junior technicians while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Team Leadership and Supervision:

    • Supervise a team of ELV technicians, assigning tasks and ensuring work is completed efficiently and on schedule.
    • Provide day-to-day leadership, motivation, and technical support to team members, ensuring they adhere to company standards and safety protocols.
    • Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and identify areas for improvement to enhance the team’s technical skills and performance.
    • Manage workload distribution and ensure that team members are properly equipped to carry out their tasks.
  2. Installation and System Integration:

    • Oversee the installation, configuration, and integration of complex ELV systems such as CCTV, access control systems, intercoms, fire alarms, and PA systems.
    • Ensure that installations are completed according to project specifications, design plans, and safety standards.
    • Ensure systems are properly integrated with existing infrastructure and technologies, such as networking, control systems, and home automation devices.
  3. Project Management and Coordination:

    • Manage and coordinate ELV system installation projects from start to finish, ensuring all tasks are completed on time, within budget, and in line with client specifications.
    • Coordinate with project managers, senior engineers, and other departments to ensure smooth project execution and timely resolution of any issues.
    • Monitor project progress, report on key milestones, and address any challenges or delays as they arise.
  4. Troubleshooting and Technical Support:

    • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex system issues, working alongside the team to diagnose and resolve faults with ELV systems, such as connectivity issues, faulty components, or integration problems.
    • Provide technical guidance to junior technicians during troubleshooting and repairs, ensuring that issues are resolved efficiently and effectively.
    • Ensure that all repairs, replacements, and modifications are carried out according to safety standards and client specifications.
  5. Client Interaction and Quality Assurance:

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding system installation, service requests, and maintenance issues.
    • Communicate with clients to understand their requirements, provide updates on project progress, and address concerns or technical questions.
    • Oversee quality assurance processes to ensure that installations and maintenance work meet high standards of performance, safety, and reliability.
  6. Training and Mentorship:

    • Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to junior technicians, ensuring they develop a strong understanding of ELV system installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting techniques.
    • Conduct regular technical training sessions to improve the skills of team members and keep them up-to-date with industry trends and best practices.
    • Ensure that technicians follow established safety procedures and guidelines during all installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
  7. Health and Safety Compliance:

    • Ensure that all team members adhere to health and safety standards during installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of ELV systems.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of systems to ensure compliance with local regulations and industry standards (e.g., IEC, NEC).
    • Manage risk assessments for installations and ensure that safety protocols are followed to minimize accidents or damage.
  8. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of installation processes, maintenance activities, repairs, and service reports.
    • Ensure all project documentation, including schematics, configuration details, and service logs, is completed and stored in an organized manner.
    • Prepare and submit regular progress reports to senior management, outlining key achievements, challenges, and resolutions.
  9. System Maintenance and Upgrades:

    • Oversee routine maintenance of installed systems, ensuring they remain operational and up-to-date with software and hardware upgrades.
    • Lead efforts to implement system upgrades or expansions, ensuring minimal disruption to client operations.
    • Monitor the performance of ELV systems and recommend upgrades or improvements as necessary to meet evolving client needs or technological advancements.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with ELV systems, including CCTV, access control, fire alarms, intercoms, PA systems, and home automation solutions.
  • Experience with networking and communication protocols used in ELV systems (e.g., IP-based devices, Ethernet, Wi-Fi).
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and experience diagnosing and resolving complex issues in ELV systems.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, motivate, and train a team of technicians.
  • Good understanding of electrical safety standards and codes (e.g., IEC, NEC).
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, vendors, and other departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications in ELV systems, security systems, or home automation are a plus.
  • Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) is beneficial but not required.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Supervision of Electrical Systems Control and Monitoring

  • Overseeing the installation, testing, and maintenance of ELV control and monitoring systems across multiple projects.
  • Power Distribution Network Oversight

  • Managing the design, deployment, and troubleshooting of power distribution networks for ELV systems.
  • SCADA and PLC Systems Leadership

  • Supervising the implementation, integration, and optimization of SCADA and PLC systems in complex ELV environments.
  • Electrical Safety Standards and Compliance Management (IEC, NEC)

  • Ensuring full compliance with IEC, NEC, and other regulatory standards, and conducting safety audits for ELV operations.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in ELV systems installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Experience managing teams and overseeing complex installation projects.
  • Experience with large-scale or enterprise-level ELV systems is a plus.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency with electrical tools, diagnostic tools, and equipment used in ELV system installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with ELV system management software (e.g., CCTV configuration tools, access control management platforms).
  • Experience with basic networking and communication protocols used in ELV systems (e.g., IP, Wi-Fi, Zigbee).

Other Requirements:

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and client locations for installations, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Ability to work under pressure and resolve issues quickly and effectively.
  • Commitment to health and safety standards, ensuring a safe working environment for the team and clients.
