Job Title: ELV Technician

Job Summary:

The Senior ELV Technician is responsible for overseeing and leading the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems in large-scale residential, commercial, or industrial environments. These systems include CCTV, access control, fire alarms, intercoms, public address (PA) systems, and home automation solutions. The Senior Technician will also provide technical leadership to a team of technicians, mentor junior staff, ensure compliance with industry standards, and liaise with clients to ensure high-quality service delivery and system performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. System Design and Installation Leadership:

    • Lead the design, installation, and configuration of advanced ELV systems, ensuring that they are installed according to specifications, safety regulations, and client requirements.
    • Take ownership of the installation of complex systems, including CCTV, access control systems, intercoms, PA systems, and fire alarms, ensuring seamless integration across multiple platforms.
    • Ensure systems are fully integrated with existing infrastructure, including networking, power, and control systems, and that they meet project specifications and safety standards.
    • Guide the technical team in designing custom solutions for clients, ensuring scalability and flexibility.
  2. Team Management and Mentorship:

    • Supervise and mentor junior and mid-level technicians, offering guidance and technical expertise to ensure high-quality installations and service.
    • Provide training on ELV systems, troubleshooting techniques, and safety practices to enhance the skills of the team.
    • Lead by example, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, project timelines, and quality standards.
    • Assign tasks and oversee the progress of multiple ongoing projects, ensuring timely completion and customer satisfaction.
  3. Troubleshooting and System Optimization:

    • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex ELV system failures or malfunctions, ensuring minimal downtime and system performance.
    • Provide advanced diagnostics and analysis of issues related to connectivity, system integrations, and device failure, and take corrective actions as necessary.
    • Optimize system configurations and ensure the system is running at maximum efficiency, focusing on minimizing energy usage, ensuring reliability, and improving user experience.
  4. Project Coordination and Client Interaction:

    • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring that their needs are understood and effectively communicated to the team.
    • Manage client relationships, providing regular updates on project status and addressing concerns as they arise.
    • Review and approve installation plans, ensuring that projects align with client requirements and industry standards.
    • Ensure that clients receive technical support and guidance for system operation and troubleshooting after installation.
  5. System Maintenance and Upgrades:

    • Oversee routine maintenance of ELV systems, ensuring all components are functional, secure, and up to date.
    • Plan and execute upgrades for existing systems, incorporating new technologies, features, or devices as required.
    • Monitor system performance remotely (if applicable) and conduct preventive maintenance to prevent downtime or malfunctions.
  6. Health, Safety, and Compliance:

    • Ensure all installations and maintenance activities adhere to health and safety standards, electrical codes (e.g., IEC, NEC), and company policies.
    • Conduct safety audits and inspections of installed systems to ensure compliance with electrical safety standards.
    • Ensure that all systems meet regulatory requirements for quality and safety certifications, ensuring proper documentation is maintained.
  7. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of system installations, maintenance activities, troubleshooting actions, and upgrades.
    • Prepare detailed reports for clients, senior management, and other stakeholders regarding system performance, issues encountered, and resolutions.
    • Document and standardize best practices for installations, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures for future use by the team.
  8. Innovation and Process Improvement:

    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies within the ELV systems installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting workflows.
    • Research new technologies, tools, and industry trends to introduce improvements in system design, installation techniques, or troubleshooting strategies.
    • Ensure the team stays up to date with new advancements in ELV technology, offering solutions that provide clients with the latest and most efficient products.
  9. Quality Assurance:

    • Ensure that all installed systems meet high-quality standards and that they meet the functional requirements and performance benchmarks specified by the client.
    • Perform quality assurance inspections of installations and systems to ensure all components are properly calibrated and meet industry specifications.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Extensive experience with ELV systems, including CCTV, access control, fire alarms, intercoms, PA systems, and home automation solutions.
  • Proficiency in system integration, troubleshooting, and fault diagnostics of complex ELV systems.
  • Strong understanding of networking and communication protocols used in ELV systems (e.g., IP-based devices, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Z-Wave).
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical and cabling systems, ensuring that installations are safe, compliant, and meet technical requirements.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with a track record of successfully leading teams and managing projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety standards, electrical codes, and regulations (e.g., IEC, NEC) relevant to ELV systems.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical field.
  • Certification in ELV systems or specific systems such as CCTV, fire alarm systems, or home automation is an advantage.

  • Advanced Electrical Systems Control and Monitoring

  • Leading the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of complex ELV control and monitoring systems.
  • Comprehensive Power Distribution Network Management

  • Supervising the design, optimization, and maintenance of robust power distribution networks for ELV systems.
  • SCADA and PLC Systems Integration

  • Overseeing the programming, integration, and maintenance of SCADA and PLC systems in large-scale ELV projects.
  • Electrical Safety Standards and Codes Compliance (IEC, NEC)

  • Enforcing compliance with IEC, NEC, and industry standards, and mentoring teams on best safety practices.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience working with ELV systems, with at least 2-3 years in a senior or leadership role.
  • Proven experience managing complex ELV system installations, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities.
  • Experience working with large-scale projects and overseeing teams of technicians or engineers.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency with electrical testing and diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal testers).
  • Knowledge of ELV configuration and management software (e.g., CCTV software, access control systems, building automation platforms).
  • Familiarity with cloud-based management tools and systems for monitoring and controlling ELV installations.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to manage projects from start to finish, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and customer locations for installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage documentation, schedules, and quality checks.
