Job Title: ELV Technician

Job Summary:

The Junior ELV Technician is responsible for assisting in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems, including CCTV, access control, fire alarms, intercom systems, and other home or industrial automation systems. This role provides hands-on experience with ELV equipment and systems, working under the guidance of senior technicians to ensure the smooth setup, configuration, and operation of systems. The Junior ELV Technician will also help perform diagnostics, repairs, and assist in routine servicing tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. System Installation and Configuration:

    • Assist in the installation of ELV systems such as CCTV cameras, access control systems, fire alarms, and intercoms, ensuring all devices are properly connected.
    • Help configure and set up systems, ensuring components such as cameras, alarms, and controllers are properly installed, wired, and connected to the central network or monitoring station.
    • Assist senior technicians in setting up network connections for smart home automation and security systems.
  2. Testing and Troubleshooting:

    • Perform basic testing of installed ELV systems to ensure proper functionality and integration with other systems.
    • Help troubleshoot common issues such as faulty wiring, device miscommunication, or system malfunctions under the supervision of senior engineers.
    • Assist in using diagnostic tools and equipment (e.g., multimeters, signal testers) to identify and resolve system problems.
  3. System Maintenance and Repairs:

    • Perform routine maintenance and check-ups on installed systems to ensure optimal performance, including cleaning cameras, checking wiring, and replacing worn-out components.
    • Assist senior technicians in identifying issues that require repair and help replace defective components like sensors, cables, or connectors.
    • Support the servicing of systems, including updating software, firmware, or configuration files as necessary.
  4. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of installation processes, service requests, repairs, and testing results.
    • Document any issues found during troubleshooting and repairs, including the steps taken to resolve the issues, to help create troubleshooting guides for future reference.
    • Provide updates to senior technicians on the status of ongoing projects or service requests.
  5. Customer Support:

    • Provide basic technical assistance to clients on how to use and operate the installed ELV systems.
    • Respond to client inquiries regarding system setup, troubleshooting, and basic configuration.
    • Assist with system handover, explaining to clients how to manage and monitor their automation systems.
  6. Learning and Development:

    • Continuously improve technical knowledge of ELV systems, including learning about new products, technologies, and installation techniques.
    • Participate in on-the-job training and attend workshops to develop proficiency in system installation, troubleshooting, and repair.
    • Seek mentorship from senior technicians to grow technical skills and knowledge in the field of ELV systems.
  7. Health and Safety Compliance:

    • Adhere to all health and safety regulations when working with electrical systems, ensuring safety precautions are followed at all times.
    • Assist in performing safety checks and inspections to ensure that all installed systems comply with relevant safety standards and codes.
    • Ensure that all work is conducted in a safe and organized manner, minimizing the risk of accidents or damage to equipment.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of ELV systems, including CCTV, access control systems, intercoms, fire alarms, and other automation systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical tools and equipment, such as multimeters, screwdrivers, drills, and cable testers.
  • Basic knowledge of networking and connectivity for ELV systems, including Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and other communication protocols used in automation systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in identifying and fixing issues.
  • Good understanding of safety standards and procedures when working with low-voltage electrical systems.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and assist senior technicians in executing tasks efficiently.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical field.
  • Certification in ELV systems, CCTV, or any related automation systems is a plus but not required.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in ELV systems, electrical systems, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with home automation, CCTV, intercom systems, or basic electrical systems through internships, academic projects, or personal work is advantageous.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with basic electrical testing tools (e.g., multimeter, cable testers, signal testers).
  • Exposure to ELV systems software and configuration tools (e.g., CCTV software, intercom configuration tools).
  • Knowledge of basic wiring diagrams and electrical schematics.

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to learn and develop technical skills in ELV systems, automation, and security technologies.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under the supervision of senior technicians.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with team members and customers.
