Job Title: ELV Technician
Job Summary:
The ELV Technician (Fresher) will assist in the installation, maintenance, and servicing of Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems, including security, communication, and automation systems. These systems typically include CCTV, access control, intercom, fire alarms, PA systems, and data networks. This entry-level role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the ELV field, working under the guidance of senior technicians to ensure systems are installed and maintained in accordance with safety standards, operational requirements, and client specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
System Installation and Setup:
- Assist in the installation of ELV systems, including CCTV cameras, access control systems, intercom systems, PA systems, and fire alarms.
- Help with the physical installation of cabling, components, and devices according to project plans and design specifications.
- Support senior technicians in configuring and testing installed systems to ensure they meet the required performance and operational standards.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Assist in the maintenance of ELV systems, conducting routine inspections, cleaning, and adjustments to ensure they operate effectively.
- Help troubleshoot system faults and malfunctions, including diagnosing wiring issues, equipment failure, and configuration problems.
- Support senior technicians in repairing or replacing faulty components and conducting system upgrades as needed.
System Testing and Calibration:
- Assist in performing testing and calibration of installed systems, ensuring all devices are properly connected and function according to design specifications.
- Conduct basic performance checks on cameras, access control devices, and other ELV components to verify they are working correctly.
- Document testing procedures and report findings to senior engineers or project managers.
Client Interaction and Support:
- Provide basic support and guidance to clients on how to operate and maintain their ELV systems.
- Respond to client inquiries regarding system functionality, troubleshooting, and basic system configuration.
- Assist in the setup of user accounts or access permissions for security and access control systems.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Assist in preparing and maintaining installation and maintenance reports for all systems installed, including wiring diagrams, system configurations, and test results.
- Maintain records of system maintenance activities, including service dates, repairs, and parts replaced, ensuring compliance with company standards.
- Ensure that installation and service reports are submitted in a timely and accurate manner.
Learning and Development:
- Continuously improve knowledge of ELV systems, technologies, and troubleshooting techniques through hands-on experience and training.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in ELV technologies and industry best practices.
- Participate in on-the-job training and attend relevant courses or workshops to enhance technical skills and certifications.
Health and Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to health and safety standards during the installation, maintenance, and servicing of ELV systems.
- Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with safety protocols to avoid electrical hazards and ensure the safety of personnel and clients.
- Assist in conducting safety checks to ensure the safe operation of ELV systems.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Basic understanding of ELV systems, including CCTV, access control, fire alarms, intercoms, and other communication systems.
- Familiarity with electrical and cabling systems and the basic installation practices for low voltage systems.
- Ability to use common tools and diagnostic equipment for ELV installations and troubleshooting (e.g., multimeters, testers).
- Strong problem-solving skills to help diagnose and fix basic system issues.
- Basic knowledge of electrical safety standards and health & safety regulations.
- Good communication skills to interact with clients and team members effectively.
- Ability to follow instructions from senior technicians and complete tasks on time.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, or a related technical field.
- Any relevant certifications related to ELV systems (e.g., CCTV installation, access control systems) are a plus but not required.
Experience:
- No prior professional experience required.
- Internships, academic projects, or personal experience related to ELV systems or electrical installations are beneficial.
Key Focus :
Basics of Electrical Systems Control and Monitoring
- Understanding fundamental concepts of controlling and monitoring ELV (Extra Low Voltage) systems.
Introduction to Power Distribution for ELV Systems
- Learning basic power distribution principles specific to ELV installations.
SCADA and PLC System Fundamentals
- Gaining introductory knowledge of SCADA and PLC systems used in ELV applications.
Electrical Safety Standards for ELV Systems
- Familiarizing with IEC, NEC, and relevant safety codes for ELV installations.
Tools and Technologies:
- Familiarity with basic electrical tools and testing equipment (e.g., multimeter, cable testers).
- Basic understanding of ELV components (e.g., CCTV cameras, control panels, intercoms).
- Exposure to configuration software used for ELV system setup is a plus (e.g., CCTV software, access control systems software).
