Job Title: Drilling Systems Engineer

Job Summary:

The Senior Drilling Systems Engineer is responsible for leading the design, maintenance, and optimization of drilling systems in oil and gas operations. This role involves managing complex projects, ensuring the reliability of automated drilling systems, and overseeing safety-critical equipment. The Senior Engineer provides technical leadership, drives innovation, and ensures compliance with industry standards and organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

System Leadership and Optimization:

  • Lead the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of advanced drilling systems, including automated control panels, sensors, and actuators.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance system reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Analyze system performance data to identify trends, address inefficiencies, and recommend solutions.

Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution:

  • Diagnose and resolve critical issues in drilling systems using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for recurring system issues and implement long-term corrective measures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors to resolve high-level technical challenges.

System Integration and Upgrades:

  • Oversee the integration and commissioning of new drilling systems and technologies, ensuring seamless compatibility with existing operations.
  • Validate and approve system upgrades and modifications to meet operational and safety standards.
  • Lead retrofitting projects to incorporate the latest technologies and improve system performance.

Safety and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure all drilling systems adhere to industry safety protocols, environmental regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement measures to mitigate hazards in drilling operations.
  • Validate and maintain safety-critical systems, including blowout preventers (BOPs) and emergency shutdown devices.

Project Management:

  • Manage large-scale projects, including drilling system installations, upgrades, and overhauls.
  • Develop project plans, budgets, and timelines to ensure successful project execution.
  • Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders to align project goals with organizational priorities.

Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Provide technical leadership to a team of engineers and technicians, fostering professional development and high performance.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, offering guidance on complex technical issues and career growth.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and consultant on critical projects and strategic initiatives.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of system configurations, maintenance logs, and performance metrics.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and present findings to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Refine and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for drilling systems.

Key Focus Areas:

  • System Leadership: Oversee the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of advanced drilling systems.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety protocols and validate critical safety equipment.
  • Project Execution: Manage large-scale installations, upgrades, and retrofits of drilling systems.
  • Team Development: Mentor junior staff and lead cross-functional teams to achieve operational goals.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of drilling systems, including advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and optimization techniques.
  • Proficiency in SCADA systems, industrial automation, and data analytics tools.
  • In-depth understanding of safety standards, risk management, and environmental compliance in drilling operations.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, resource allocation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills to manage teams and present technical insights effectively.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Automation, or a related technical field.
  • Advanced certifications in drilling systems, process control, or project management are highly desirable.

Experience:

  • 7-10 years of experience in drilling systems engineering, with a proven track record of managing complex technical tasks and projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in guiding teams and executing large-scale projects.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Expertise in advanced diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, thermal cameras, and vibration analyzers.
  • Proficiency in SCADA platforms and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, HART, Profibus).
  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance tools and machine learning applications for drilling systems.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills to handle multiple high-priority tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively in challenging environments and make decisions under pressure.
