Job Title: Drilling Systems Engineer
Job Summary:
The Mid-Level Drilling Systems Engineer is responsible for independently managing the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of drilling systems in oil and gas operations. This role involves analyzing system performance, leading medium-scale projects, and implementing upgrades to improve drilling efficiency and safety. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams, ensures compliance with safety standards, and mentors junior staff to enhance team expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
System Maintenance and Optimization:
- Perform advanced maintenance and calibration of drilling systems, including automated drilling equipment, sensors, and control systems.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and ensure system reliability.
- Analyze operational data to identify inefficiencies and recommend optimization strategies.
Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues in drilling systems using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
- Conduct root cause analyses for recurring system problems and develop corrective action plans.
- Collaborate with vendors and cross-functional teams to address critical technical challenges.
System Integration and Upgrades:
- Lead the integration and commissioning of new drilling systems, ensuring seamless compatibility with existing infrastructure.
- Validate and test upgraded systems to meet operational and safety standards.
- Plan and execute system retrofitting projects to improve performance and reliability.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to industry safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Conduct risk assessments and oversee the implementation of safety measures for drilling systems.
- Validate safety-critical systems, including blowout preventers (BOPs) and emergency shutdown devices.
Project Management:
- Manage medium-scale projects, including system installations, retrofits, and maintenance overhauls.
- Develop project timelines, budgets, and resource plans to ensure successful delivery.
- Collaborate with operations and leadership teams to align projects with organizational goals.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of system configurations, calibration activities, and performance metrics.
- Prepare technical reports on system performance, project progress, and improvement recommendations.
- Update and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) for drilling systems.
Collaboration and Mentorship:
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, and safety teams to address drilling system challenges.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians, providing guidance on complex technical tasks.
- Act as a liaison between field teams and senior management for reporting and issue resolution.

Educational Qualifications:

Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in drilling system maintenance, optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical tasks and lead projects independently.
Tools and Technologies:
- Expertise in diagnostic tools, including oscilloscopes, vibration analyzers, and flow meters.
- Proficiency in SCADA platforms and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, HART, Profibus).
- Familiarity with predictive maintenance tools and advanced analytics for system monitoring.
