Job Title: Drilling Systems Engineer

Job Summary:

The Junior Drilling Systems Engineer is responsible for performing routine maintenance, calibration, and optimization of drilling systems used in oil and gas exploration and production. This role involves monitoring drilling system performance, diagnosing minor issues, and supporting senior engineers in implementing upgrades and process improvements. The engineer ensures operational safety and contributes to the reliability and efficiency of drilling operations.

Key Responsibilities:

System Maintenance and Calibration:

  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of drilling systems, including control panels, sensors, and automated drilling equipment.
  • Ensure proper functionality of key systems such as blowout preventers (BOPs), pressure control systems, and well monitoring tools.
  • Identify and resolve minor issues in equipment performance and escalate complex problems to senior engineers.

Operational Monitoring:

  • Monitor real-time drilling operations using SCADA and other control systems to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Analyze operational data to identify trends and suggest improvements in drilling system performance.
  • Support the implementation of process control strategies to optimize drilling efficiency.

Troubleshooting and Repairs:

  • Diagnose basic faults in drilling systems and conduct necessary repairs under minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate with field teams to implement solutions for recurring system issues.
  • Document troubleshooting activities and maintain accurate records for future reference.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Conduct regular safety checks on drilling systems to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Participate in safety drills and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Adhere to organizational safety protocols and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

System Integration and Upgrades:

  • Assist in the integration of new control systems and equipment into existing drilling operations.
  • Validate and test upgraded systems to meet operational and safety standards.
  • Provide technical support during the commissioning of new systems and technologies.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed logs of maintenance activities, calibration records, and system performance data.
  • Prepare technical reports on system performance and suggest actionable recommendations.
  • Contribute to updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) based on field experiences.

Collaboration and Teamwork:

  • Work closely with senior engineers, field technicians, and operations teams to address drilling system challenges.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to fresher engineers during field operations.
  • Actively participate in team discussions to share insights and propose improvements.

  • Drilling Systems Maintenance: Ensure reliable operation of automated and manual drilling systems.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve minor issues to maintain system performance.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce adherence to safety standards and conduct risk assessments.
  • System Integration: Support upgrades and testing of new drilling systems and technologies.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Strong understanding of drilling systems, including control technologies, sensors, and actuators.
  • Basic proficiency in SCADA systems, industrial automation, and data monitoring.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols, industry standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Analytical skills to interpret system data and identify potential inefficiencies.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for teamwork and reporting.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Automation, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications in drilling systems, industrial automation, or process control are desirable.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in drilling system maintenance, calibration, or monitoring.
  • Hands-on experience with basic troubleshooting and system integration is advantageous.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency in tools like pressure calibrators, vibration analyzers, and flow meters.
  • Familiarity with SCADA platforms and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, HART).
  • Basic knowledge of diagnostic software and real-time monitoring systems.
