Job Title: Drilling Systems Engineer

Job Summary:

The Drilling Systems Engineer at the fresher level is responsible for supporting the design, maintenance, and optimization of drilling systems used in oil and gas exploration and production. The role involves learning the operation of drilling control systems, monitoring system performance, and assisting in troubleshooting under the guidance of senior engineers. The fresher is expected to develop technical expertise in drilling systems while adhering to safety and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Drilling Systems Support:

  • Assist in the setup, calibration, and testing of drilling systems, including automated drilling equipment and control panels.
  • Monitor drilling operations to ensure compliance with technical specifications and safety standards.
  • Support the implementation of control systems for drill string and wellbore monitoring.

System Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

  • Assist in performing routine maintenance of drilling equipment and associated control systems.
  • Identify basic system issues and report them to senior engineers for resolution.
  • Document system performance and maintenance activities for review and analysis.

Operational Monitoring:

  • Observe and record operational data from drilling systems to understand performance trends.
  • Collaborate with field teams to address equipment malfunctions and optimize system operations.
  • Learn to interpret data from SCADA and other real-time monitoring systems for drilling parameters.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Participate in safety training and adhere to organizational protocols during field operations.
  • Assist in validating safety-critical systems, such as blowout preventers (BOPs) and pressure control systems.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and contribute to risk assessments.

Learning and Development:

  • Attend training sessions and workshops to build knowledge of drilling systems and related technologies.
  • Gain familiarity with industry standards, including API and IADC guidelines.
  • Shadow senior engineers to develop hands-on experience with drilling systems and control technologies.

  • Drilling Systems: Support the operation and maintenance of automated and manual drilling systems.
  • Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Assist in identifying and resolving basic issues in drilling equipment.
  • Safety Compliance: Learn and follow safety protocols during drilling operations.
  • Skill Development: Develop technical knowledge and hands-on experience in drilling systems engineering.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of drilling systems, including control technologies and safety mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation tools, SCADA systems, and process monitoring.
  • Analytical skills for interpreting system performance data and identifying potential issues.
  • Awareness of safety and environmental regulations in drilling operations.
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with team members and reporting findings.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Basic training or certifications in drilling systems or industrial automation are advantageous but not mandatory.

Experience:

  • No prior experience required; internships or academic projects related to drilling systems are beneficial.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Exposure to SCADA and industrial control systems is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with tools such as pressure gauges, flow meters, and vibration analyzers.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office tools for data analysis and reporting.
