Job Title: Director of Reliability & Maintenance

Job Summary:

We are looking for a seasoned and strategic Director of Reliability & Maintenance to lead the development, implementation, and oversight of reliability and maintenance strategies across our operations. This role is responsible for improving asset reliability, reducing unplanned downtime, optimizing maintenance programs, and ensuring the safe, efficient functioning of equipment and infrastructure. You will lead cross-functional teams, champion best practices, and align maintenance strategies with operational goals to support long-term business success.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance Strategy & Execution:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance strategies, including preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs.

  • Ensure all maintenance activities are aligned with asset management and operational performance targets.

  • Oversee daily maintenance operations, resource planning, and equipment availability across multiple facilities or plants.

Reliability Engineering:

  • Lead initiatives to improve equipment reliability using tools such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM).

  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to design out failure modes and implement permanent corrective actions.

  • Use data analytics and CMMS to monitor equipment health and forecast maintenance needs.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing reliability and maintenance team.

  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Provide coaching, training, and career development opportunities for team members.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for maintenance efficiency, downtime, cost control, and reliability.

  • Regularly report performance metrics to senior leadership and use data insights to drive improvement.

  • Drive initiatives to reduce maintenance costs without compromising safety or reliability.

Asset Integrity & Compliance:

  • Ensure maintenance practices comply with industry standards (e.g., ISO 55000), regulatory requirements, and company safety policies.

  • Oversee audits, inspections, and documentation related to maintenance and reliability programs.

  • Promote and enforce strict adherence to safety and environmental regulations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with engineering, operations, procurement, and safety teams to align reliability and maintenance strategies with broader business goals.

  • Partner with OEMs and vendors to ensure proper maintenance support and access to the latest technologies and services.

Qualifications and Skills:

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in maintenance and reliability leadership roles, preferably in manufacturing, energy, or industrial environments.

  • Strong background in asset management, predictive maintenance technologies, and reliability engineering.

  • Proven ability to lead large, multi-site maintenance teams and complex technical operations.

Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of maintenance and reliability best practices, CMMS, and condition monitoring tools.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Analytical and data-driven decision-making capabilities.

  • Hands-on experience implementing Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement frameworks.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE).

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.

  • Lean Six Sigma certification is an advantage.
