The Director of Procurement โ Mechanical and Valve Systems is responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies for critical mechanical components and industrial valve systems across projects and operational assets. The role combines technical sourcing expertise, vendor management, cost optimization, and cross-functional collaboration with engineering, project, and operations teams.
This individual will lead a team of procurement professionals and ensure timely, cost-effective, and specification-compliant acquisition of pumps, valves, actuators, pressure equipment, and associated mechanical packages.
Develop and implement procurement strategies for mechanical equipment and valve systems, aligned with project timelines, quality requirements, and total cost of ownership goals.
Oversee sourcing and contract management for:
Valves: gate, globe, ball, butterfly, check, control valves
Actuators: pneumatic, hydraulic, electric
Mechanical systems: pumps, compressors, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, skids, piping assemblies
Ensure procurement plans are aligned with engineering specifications, budget constraints, and supplier capabilities.
Build and maintain a robust global supplier base with qualified and reliable manufacturers of valves and mechanical systems.
Drive supplier performance through scorecards, audits, quality reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Negotiate and manage framework agreements, long-term pricing, and strategic partnerships for key categories.
Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure technical bid evaluations (TBE) are integrated into sourcing decisions.
Apply deep understanding of material specifications, pressure classes, actuation technologies, and industry standards (API, ASME, ISO).
Resolve technical-commercial conflicts and support complex RFx and contract negotiations.
Manage end-to-end procurement lifecycle for capital projects, including RFP development, bid clarification, PO issuance, expediting, and supplier coordination.
Ensure on-time delivery of long-lead mechanical equipment and valve packages, coordinating closely with logistics, QA/QC, and construction teams.
Implement procurement risk mitigation plans, including dual sourcing and supplier capacity planning.
Monitor key KPIs: cost savings, on-time delivery, quality compliance, procurement lead time.
Ensure adherence to company procurement policies, legal regulations, trade compliance, and HSE standards.
Leverage ERP (SAP/Oracle), sourcing platforms, and digital procurement tools for transparency and efficiency.
Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing procurement team focused on mechanical and valve systems.
Promote collaboration with project management, engineering, materials, and finance stakeholders to drive shared goals.
Act as a senior liaison between procurement and executive leadership on all valve and mechanical procurement matters.
Bachelorโs degree in Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or Business (Required)
Masterโs degree, MBA, or relevant certifications (CIPS, CPM) (Preferred)
12โ18 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain roles, with at least 7+ years in leadership positions
Strong background in mechanical equipment and valve procurement, ideally within EPC, oil & gas, energy, or process industries
Proven expertise in technical negotiations, vendor development, and global sourcing
