Job Title: Director of Fabrication, Maintenance, or Manufacturing

Job Summary:

We are seeking a results-driven and technically proficient Director of Fabrication, Maintenance, or Manufacturing to lead our industrial operations with a focus on mechanical systems, fabrication processes, and asset lifecycle performance. This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on leadership of shop floor operations, production planning, asset reliability, and quality control. The successful candidate will ensure the highest standards of safety, quality, productivity, and operational efficiency across fabrication yards, maintenance programs, or manufacturing plants.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Operational Management

  • Lead and manage fabrication, mechanical maintenance, or manufacturing operations to meet production targets and quality standards.

  • Define and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency, equipment reliability, and cost control.

  • Align department objectives with broader business goals and long-term asset strategies.

Fabrication & Production Oversight (if fabrication/manufacturing focus)

  • Oversee fabrication of piping, pressure vessels, structural steel, skids, and valve assemblies in compliance with project specifications and codes (e.g., ASME, AWS, API).

  • Ensure production planning, resource allocation, and workflow optimization for high throughput and quality.

  • Coordinate with engineering and QA/QC to resolve technical issues and ensure adherence to standards.

Mechanical Maintenance Leadership (if maintenance focus)

  • Lead preventive and corrective maintenance strategies for rotating and static mechanical equipment.

  • Manage CMMS systems, maintenance schedules, spare parts inventory, and contractor activities.

  • Ensure reliability programs such as condition monitoring, RCA, and RCM are effectively implemented.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and mentor supervisors, engineers, technicians, and operators in achieving operational excellence.

  • Build a high-performance culture focused on safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure effective training, performance management, and workforce planning.

Compliance, Quality & Safety

  • Enforce compliance with HSE policies, national/international codes, and internal standards.

  • Ensure high levels of product quality and mechanical integrity through robust quality assurance programs.

  • Lead safety audits, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets, including OPEX, CAPEX, staffing, tools, and consumables.

  • Optimize resource utilization and production costs while maintaining performance KPIs.

Qualifications and Skills:

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

  • Master’s degree or MBA is an asset.

Experience:

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in mechanical fabrication, maintenance, or manufacturing, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role.

  • Strong background in either shop fabrication, heavy equipment maintenance, or production/manufacturing.

  • Familiarity with fabrication standards (ASME, API, AWS) and/or maintenance best practices (RBI, RCM, TPM).

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.

  • Proficiency in ERP/CMMS systems and data-driven decision-making.

  • Ability to manage complex operations under high-quality and safety expectations.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, PMP, API 510/570/653, or similar credentials are advantageous.

  • OSHA, NEBOSH, or other HSE certifications preferred for maintenance-heavy roles.
