Job Title: Director of Building Systems – Oil & Gas Facilities

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Director of Building Systems to lead the design, operation, maintenance, and optimization of building infrastructure systems across oil & gas facilities. This executive role involves strategic oversight of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems critical to the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of refineries, offshore platforms, and associated industrial sites. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership and project management skills in heavy industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Management:

  • Lead the building systems function across multiple oil & gas sites, ensuring alignment with corporate goals, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop and implement long-term strategies for building systems design, maintenance, energy efficiency, and technology upgrades.

  • Manage multidisciplinary teams of engineers, technicians, contractors, and consultants.

System Design & Integration:

  • Oversee design reviews and integration of HVAC, electrical power and lighting, fire protection, plumbing, and control systems tailored for oil & gas operational demands.

  • Ensure designs meet industry standards (API, NFPA, IEC, ASHRAE) and project specifications.

Operations & Maintenance Excellence:

  • Drive preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize system reliability and minimize downtime.

  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex system failures or operational challenges.

Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure all building systems comply with local and international safety codes, environmental regulations, and company HSE policies.

  • Champion safety culture and participate in audits, hazard assessments, and incident investigations.

Budgeting & Vendor Management:

  • Develop and manage budgets for building systems projects, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance.

  • Oversee procurement, vendor selection, and contract negotiations to ensure cost-effective sourcing of equipment and services.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

  • Promote adoption of advanced technologies such as IoT, smart building automation, and energy management systems.

  • Implement data-driven decision-making through monitoring systems and performance analytics.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with project managers, operations leadership, regulatory bodies, and external contractors.

  • Represent building systems expertise in executive steering committees and client meetings.

Qualifications and Skills:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Building Systems Engineering

Certifications:

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent highly preferred

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM), PMP, or related leadership credentials advantageous

Experience:

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in building systems engineering within oil & gas or heavy industrial sectors

  • Proven track record managing multi-site operations and complex infrastructure systems

Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in HVAC, electrical power distribution, fire protection, plumbing, and BAS for industrial facilities

  • Familiarity with oil & gas-specific standards: API, NFPA, IEC, ASME, OSHA

  • Strong knowledge of building automation platforms (e.g., Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric)

Soft Skills:

  • Strategic thinker with excellent leadership and communication skills

  • Ability to influence and collaborate at all organizational levels

  • Strong problem-solving, project management, and negotiation skills
