The Director – Instrumentation and Control Systems is responsible for leading the strategic direction, design, and execution of all instrumentation and control (I&C) initiatives across the organization. This role ensures the reliability, safety, and performance of process control systems in line with operational goals, industry standards, and digital transformation strategies.
Develop and lead the enterprise-wide instrumentation and control systems strategy, including standardization and modernization of automation platforms.
Oversee the engineering, installation, maintenance, and optimization of control systems (PLCs, DCS, SCADA, HMI) and field instrumentation.
Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and IT teams to ensure system performance, safety, and data integrity.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards such as ISA, IEC, NFPA, and corporate EHS policies.
Drive innovation through adoption of advanced control techniques, remote monitoring, and smart instrumentation.
Manage capital and operational budgets for I&C infrastructure and projects.
Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and contractors.
Oversee training, talent development, and succession planning within the I&C function.
Develop and maintain vendor partnerships and service agreements.
Strategic Leadership & Vision:
Establish a clear roadmap for instrumentation and control systems modernization, aligned with operational excellence and digitalization goals.
System Design & Standardization:
Ensure consistent design principles and standard control architectures across facilities to enhance interoperability and scalability.
Advanced Control & Automation:
Implement advanced process control (APC), model predictive control (MPC), and smart instrumentation to improve process performance and energy efficiency.
Instrumentation Reliability & Calibration:
Oversee selection, calibration, and lifecycle management of all field devices to ensure accuracy, reliability, and traceability.
Compliance & Safety:
Lead compliance with functional safety (e.g., IEC 61511), cybersecurity (IEC 62443), and industry best practices in control system integrity.
Digital Integration:
Integrate control systems with MES, ERP, and data analytics platforms to enable real-time decision-making and predictive maintenance.
Team Development & Leadership:
Build a high-performing I&C team by mentoring staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and promoting technical excellence.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instrumentation, Control, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
10+ years of experience in industrial control systems, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
Proven expertise in DCS, PLC, SCADA, HMI platforms (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Emerson, ABB, Honeywell).
Strong understanding of process control principles, industrial instrumentation, and automation technologies.
Experience in regulatory environments (e.g., chemical, pharmaceutical, energy) with strong safety and compliance focus.
