Roles & Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Lead I&C Engineer in Process/Discrete Manufacturing oversees the design, implementation, and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems critical to manufacturing processes. This role leads technical efforts to optimize control strategies, ensure system reliability, and support manufacturing efficiency for both continuous process and discrete production environments.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, configuration, and commissioning of control systems including PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and related instrumentation for process and discrete manufacturing.

  • Develop and optimize control strategies to improve production efficiency, quality, and safety.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to I&C engineers and technicians.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex instrumentation and control issues across manufacturing lines.

  • Collaborate with process, maintenance, and production teams to support system performance and uptime.

  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and industry standards.

  • Manage documentation, including P&IDs, loop diagrams, and control narratives.

  • Participate in capital projects and continuous improvement initiatives related to automation and control.

  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and upgrades for I&C systems.

  • Support vendor selection and manage technical relationships with suppliers and contractors.

  1. Technical Leadership:
    Lead and mentor the I&C engineering team to deliver robust and efficient control solutions in process and discrete manufacturing.

  2. Control Systems Engineering:
    Design and implement advanced control systems to optimize manufacturing operations and ensure product quality.

  3. System Troubleshooting & Support:
    Diagnose and resolve complex control and instrumentation problems to minimize downtime and operational risk.

  4. Standards & Compliance:
    Maintain compliance with industry and safety standards, ensuring documentation and systems meet regulatory requirements.

  5. Project & Change Management:
    Drive successful execution of engineering projects and support manufacturing changes with minimal disruption.

  6. Collaboration & Communication:
    Work closely with cross-functional teams including production, maintenance, quality, and vendors for seamless system integration.

  7. Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
    Recommend and implement improvements leveraging new technologies and best practices in instrumentation and control.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in instrumentation and control engineering within process or discrete manufacturing environments.

  • Strong knowledge of PLC, DCS, SCADA systems, and field instrumentation.

  • Proven experience leading engineering teams or technical projects.

  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, control philosophies, and safety standards.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
