The Director – Field Fabrication and Assembly Projects is responsible for leading the execution of large-scale fabrication, erection, and assembly activities at field locations (onshore/offshore). This leadership role involves strategic planning, stakeholder coordination, resource management, quality assurance, and delivery of complex industrial construction projects—such as modular plants, refineries, power plants, or infrastructure works. The director ensures project performance meets all safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives.
Project Leadership & Execution:
Lead the end-to-end execution of field fabrication and assembly works, including structural steel, piping, equipment modules, and skids.
Manage site-based teams, including project managers, construction managers, engineers, and subcontractors.
Strategic Planning & Scheduling:
Develop project execution plans, field work schedules, and mobilization strategies aligned with client requirements.
Monitor progress against milestones, and implement recovery plans where necessary.
Quality & Safety Management:
Ensure adherence to QA/QC procedures, welding standards, and fabrication tolerances.
Enforce EHS protocols and lead incident-free safety culture across all site operations.
Stakeholder & Client Management:
Serve as the key interface with clients, consultants, and regulatory bodies for field project execution.
Participate in regular progress meetings, site reviews, and audits with stakeholders.
Resource & Cost Management:
Plan and allocate resources (manpower, equipment, materials) across multiple sites.
Control project budgets, manage cost overruns, and track productivity indices.
Subcontractor & Vendor Oversight:
Prequalify and manage subcontractors and field vendors.
Ensure performance, delivery, and compliance with contractual obligations.
Documentation & Compliance:
Oversee preparation of work packs, inspection reports, fabrication records, and handover documents.
Ensure compliance with local laws, client specs, ASME, AWS, API, and ISO standards.
Continuous Improvement:
Drive innovations in modular fabrication, field welding, and assembly techniques.
Identify bottlenecks and implement LEAN or Six Sigma practices to improve field productivity.
Field Fabrication Leadership: Oversight of site-based fabrication and pre-assembly activities.
Modular Construction: Execution of modular skid fabrication, preassembly, and field integration.
Schedule Adherence: Timely completion of scope with minimal disruption and rework.
QA/QC Compliance: Ensuring zero-defect fabrication with proper documentation and traceability.
EHS Performance: Leading safe work practices and meeting HSE KPIs across all locations.
Deep knowledge of field fabrication methods, piping, structural steel, welding processes, and heavy equipment assembly.
Familiar with standards: ASME B31.3, B31.1, Section IX, API 650/1104, AWS D1.1, ISO 3834, etc.
Experience in large module assembly, skid-based plants, or brownfield modifications.
Proven leadership in managing large, multidisciplinary field teams across geographies.
Proficiency in project planning tools (Primavera P6, MS Project) and construction management software.
Sound knowledge of quality assurance procedures and inspection techniques (NDT, welding inspection).
Strong grasp of HSE management systems (HIRA, PTW, toolbox talks, incident investigations).
Ability to manage budgets, vendor contracts, and subcontractor claims.
Experience with EPC, EPCM, or Lump Sum Turnkey project models.
Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
Capability to interface with executive leadership, clients, site teams, and external agencies.
Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Civil / Structural Engineering or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Certifications:
PMP (Project Management Professional) – Preferred
CSWIP/AWS CWI or NDT Level II (Optional but beneficial)
Safety certifications (NEBOSH/IOSH) are advantageous
Experience: 15+ years in construction or fabrication management, with at least 5–7 years in leadership of field-based fabrication or modular assembly projects.
