Job Summary:

The Director – Avionics and Embedded Control Systems is responsible for leading the strategy, development, and lifecycle management of avionics and embedded systems across aircraft, rotorcraft, and UAV platforms. This role oversees engineering teams working on flight computers, navigation systems, software-defined avionics, and real-time embedded control systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and integration with overall platform architectures.


Key Focus Areas:

  • Avionics System Development – Lead design and integration of navigation, communication, surveillance (CNS), and flight display systems.

  • Embedded Control Systems – Oversee development of real-time control software and hardware for flight-critical applications.

  • System Integration & Verification – Ensure seamless integration of avionics with flight control, propulsion, and mission systems.

  • Compliance & Certification – Ensure all systems meet DO-178C, DO-254, ARINC, and relevant FAA/EASA certification requirements.

  • Innovation Leadership – Champion next-generation avionics including modular open systems architecture (MOSA), AI-assisted decision support, and cyber-resilient embedded systems.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Define strategic roadmaps and execution plans for avionics and embedded system programs across aircraft platforms.

  • Lead cross-functional engineering teams in the development of airborne computers, sensor interfaces, data buses, and real-time software.

  • Oversee validation, verification, and certification efforts including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and qualification testing.

  • Collaborate with program managers, systems engineers, and OEM partners to align avionics development with platform-level goals.

  • Establish and enforce design assurance practices for flight-critical systems and maintain traceability across development cycles.

  • Represent the organization in technical reviews, customer engagements, and regulatory compliance discussions.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Avionics, or Embedded Systems.

  • 12–15+ years of experience in avionics and embedded systems engineering, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role.

  • Deep knowledge of avionics standards and software/hardware certification (DO-178C, DO-254, ARINC 429/653/661, RTCA/EUROCAE).

  • Proven experience in systems integration, embedded development, and safety-critical software engineering.


Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong leadership in embedded systems and avionics program management.

  • Deep technical understanding of real-time control, airborne networks, and system safety.

  • Expertise in managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams and external vendors.

  • Excellent communication, documentation, and regulatory engagement skills.

  • Strategic thinker with a focus on innovation, compliance, and technical excellence.
