Job Title: Dimensional Calibration Engineer
Job Summary:
The Mid-Level Dimensional Calibration Engineer is responsible for independently managing the calibration, testing, and maintenance of dimensional measurement devices such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM). This role involves troubleshooting complex calibration issues, optimizing workflows, and ensuring compliance with international standards. The engineer contributes to team development and continuous process improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
Calibration and Testing:
- Conduct advanced calibration of dimensional instruments, including CMMs, laser measurement devices, and high-precision micrometers.
- Validate and certify the performance of dimensional measurement systems using advanced calibration tools like gauge blocks and surface plates.
- Address and resolve calibration discrepancies, ensuring compliance with accuracy requirements and standards.
Documentation:
- Maintain detailed calibration logs, test results, and certificates in compliance with ISO 17025 and organizational protocols.
- Generate calibration reports and provide technical insights to stakeholders for process optimization.
- Refine and update calibration procedures to align with best practices and regulatory requirements.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Perform preventive maintenance on calibration tools and equipment such as CMMs, surface plates, and height gauges.
- Diagnose and resolve issues in dimensional measurement systems with minimal supervision.
- Support the integration of new tools and technologies into existing calibration workflows.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure calibration activities comply with industry standards such as ISO 17025, ANSI, and GD&T.
- Adhere to organizational safety protocols and promote best practices in calibration activities.
- Participate in internal and external audits, addressing non-conformities and implementing corrective actions.
Team Collaboration and Leadership:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on calibration-related projects to ensure successful outcomes.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and support.
- Lead small-scale projects or calibration tasks, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
Process Optimization:
- Evaluate existing calibration workflows and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies in dimensional calibration and implement best practices in operations.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Comprehensive understanding of dimensional measurement principles and tools, including CMMs, laser trackers, and micrometers.
- Proficiency in advanced calibration equipment, such as gauge blocks, optical comparators, and surface plates.
- Familiarity with quality standards, including ISO 17025, GD&T, and ANSI, and their application in calibration.
- Strong troubleshooting skills to resolve technical issues in dimensional measurement systems.
- Analytical and organizational skills to manage multiple calibration tasks effectively.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Certification in dimensional calibration or metrology (ISO 17025 Lead Auditor) is highly desirable.

- Avionics and Flight Control Systems: Managing the calibration, testing, and maintenance of dimensional measurement systems within avionics and flight control systems, ensuring precise measurements and optimal system performance.
- Safety and Emergency Systems for Aircraft: Leading the calibration of dimensional measurement tools for safety and emergency systems, ensuring systems function accurately and meet all regulatory safety standards during critical operations.
- Precision Instrumentation for Navigation, Communications, and Control: Overseeing the calibration and integration of precision dimensional measurement instrumentation for navigation, communications, and control, ensuring high levels of accuracy and reliability.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in dimensional calibration or related fields.
- Proven ability to manage independent calibration tasks and troubleshoot complex systems.
Tools and Equipment:
- Advanced calibration tools, including CMMs, gauge blocks, surface plates, optical comparators, and precision micrometers.
- Familiarity with CMM software and calibration management tools for scheduling and documentation.
