Job Title: Dimensional Calibration Engineer
Job Summary:
The Dimensional Calibration Engineer (Fresher) is responsible for assisting in the calibration, testing, and maintenance of dimensional measurement instruments, such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM). This entry-level role focuses on developing foundational knowledge of dimensional calibration techniques while working under the supervision of senior engineers to ensure measurement accuracy and compliance with standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Calibration and Testing:
- Assist in the calibration of dimensional instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and dial indicators.
- Support the testing and verification of measurement systems using standard calibration equipment.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) to perform calibration tasks accurately and efficiently.
Documentation:
- Record calibration data accurately and maintain detailed logs for compliance and future reference.
- Assist in preparing calibration certificates and reports under the guidance of senior engineers.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Perform routine maintenance on calibration equipment such as CMMs, surface plates, and gauge blocks.
- Identify and report any abnormalities or performance issues in dimensional measurement devices.
Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to safety protocols and organizational guidelines during calibration and testing activities.
- Gain familiarity with relevant standards such as ISO 17025, ANSI, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with senior engineers and technicians to execute calibration tasks effectively.
- Participate in training sessions and discussions to enhance understanding of dimensional calibration methodologies.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Basic understanding of dimensional measurement principles and tools, including calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
- Familiarity with calibration techniques and equipment, such as gauge blocks, CMMs, and surface plates, is advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Basic troubleshooting skills to identify common issues in dimensional measurement devices.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Basic training or certification in dimensional calibration or metrology is a plus but not mandatory.
Experience:
- No prior experience required; internships or academic projects related to dimensional measurement or calibration are beneficial.
Key Focus Areas:
- Avionics and Flight Control Systems: Assisting in the calibration of dimensional measurement systems used in avionics and flight control systems, ensuring accurate measurements for system assembly and operation.
- Safety and Emergency Systems for Aircraft: Supporting the calibration of measurement systems involved in aircraft safety and emergency systems, ensuring proper functionality for reliable performance during critical situations.
- Precision Instrumentation for Navigation, Communications, and Control: Helping calibrate and maintain dimensional measurement instruments used for navigation, communication, and control systems, ensuring accuracy and reliability in operation.
- Testing and Documentation: Assisting in the testing, validation, and documentation of dimensional calibration results to meet industry standards and compliance requirements.
Tools and Equipment:
- Basic calibration tools such as gauge blocks, micrometers, calipers, and surface plates.
- Familiarity with CMM software and measurement tools is an added advantage.
