Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior DAQ (Data Acquisition) / Telemetry Systems Engineer supports the setup, integration, and operation of data collection and telemetry systems used in aerospace testing environments. This role involves working with sensors, signal conditioning hardware, data loggers, and wireless telemetry equipment to ensure reliable data capture during engine, flight, or structural testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Assembly and Configuration:
Assist in setting up and configuring DAQ systems including sensors, signal conditioners, data loggers, and telemetry transceivers.

  • Sensor Calibration and Wiring:
Support sensor wiring, routing, and calibration for various measurement types (temperature, pressure, strain, vibration, etc.).

  • Real-Time Data Monitoring:
Monitor live data streams during test events to ensure signal integrity, correct sampling rates, and equipment functionality.

  • Support Data Acquisition Software Use:
Operate and support software platforms used for data capture, including configuration of channels, filters, and triggers.

  • Troubleshooting:
Perform first-level troubleshooting of signal noise, wiring errors, and hardware malfunctions under the guidance of senior engineers.

  • Documentation:
Assist in documenting hardware configurations, sensor maps, wiring schematics, and test setups.

  • Inventory and Equipment Management:
Help maintain lab equipment inventory and ensure tools, sensors, and cables are properly maintained and tracked.

Key Focus Areas:

  1. Foundational Understanding of DAQ Systems:
Learn the basics of signal conditioning, sensor interfacing, and DAQ hardware/software integration.

  2. Exposure to Telemetry Technologies:
Gain practical experience with wireless and RF telemetry systems used in remote or high-speed aerospace testing.

  3. Hands-On Test Support:
Participate in ground, bench, or flight tests to support the acquisition of performance and environmental data.

  4. Data Integrity and Signal Quality:
Develop skills in identifying and minimizing noise, signal drift, and sampling errors.

  5. Safety and Test Readiness:
Learn and follow proper test procedures and safety protocols during test setup and execution phases.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field

  • Academic or internship experience with sensors, instrumentation, or control systems preferred

  • Familiarity with basic DAQ hardware (e.g., NI, HBM, Dewesoft, or similar) is a plus

  • Basic understanding of signal types (analog, digital), sensor calibration, and data acquisition principles

  • Proficiency with MS Office; experience with LabVIEW, MATLAB, or Python is a plus

  • Strong problem-solving mindset and willingness to work in hands-on test environments

  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
