Job Summary
The Junior Cybersecurity Engineer is an essential entry-level position responsible for supporting the cybersecurity infrastructure of an organization. This role involves monitoring networks for suspicious activities, ensuring compliance with security protocols, and assisting in the development and implementation of security measures to protect sensitive data from cyber threats. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor network activity for suspicious behavior, intrusions, and other security events using security monitoring tools.
- Assist with vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify potential security weaknesses.
- Help implement and configure firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and other security technologies to safeguard the organization's assets.
- Support in maintaining cybersecurity documentation, including security policies, incident reports, and vulnerability databases for compliance and auditing purposes.
- Assist in incident response activities and investigations to mitigate the impact of security breaches.
- Help analyze security risks and recommend security improvements based on findings and best practices.
- Work collaboratively with senior engineers to apply security patches and updates to systems, ensuring they remain secure against emerging threats.
- Collaborate with IT staff to secure the organization's infrastructure and ensure seamless integration of security measures.
Skills and Knowledge Required
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts and principles (e.g., network security, encryption, access control).
- Familiarity with network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, etc.) to effectively monitor and secure network traffic.
- Proficiency with security tools such as firewalls, anti-virus software, and intrusion detection systems.
- Basic knowledge of operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux, Unix) to understand system vulnerabilities.
- Understanding of risk management frameworks and methodologies to assess and mitigate risks.
- Basic scripting or programming skills (e.g., Python, Bash) to automate tasks and enhance security processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to effectively identify and address security issues.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Cybersecurity certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CEH) are a plus but not required.
