The Junior Controls Engineer – HVAC Automation/SCADA supports the design, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance of control systems related to HVAC operations within water treatment plants. This role focuses on the integration of HVAC systems with SCADA, BAS (Building Automation Systems), and PLC-based controls to ensure efficient environmental regulation, energy optimization, and process reliability.
Assist in programming, testing, and maintaining control logic for HVAC systems including chillers, AHUs, exhaust systems, and fans.
Respond to alarms and assist in troubleshooting control-related issues under supervision.
Support real-time monitoring and diagnostics of HVAC systems via SCADA/HMI platforms.
Assist in configuring and maintaining interfaces between HVAC systems and SCADA or BAS platforms.
Support the implementation of HVAC sequences of operation and alarm logic under guidance.
Prepare and update wiring diagrams, control narratives, loop sheets, and as-built documentation.
Support compliance with operational and safety standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, ASHRAE).
Contribute to small-scale automation and controls upgrade projects related to HVAC and environmental systems.
Collaborate with controls contractors, system integrators, and maintenance staff.
Participate in training programs to grow technical proficiency in HVAC automation, PLCs, and SCADA architecture.
Stay current with emerging technologies in industrial controls and HVAC automation.

Education:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Controls Engineering, or related field
Certifications (Preferred):
Basic PLC or SCADA platform training (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, Ignition, or Wonderware)
OSHA 10 or equivalent safety certification is a plus
Experience:
0–2 years of experience in automation, controls, or HVAC system integration (internship/co-op experience welcome)
Familiarity with basic instrumentation and I/O wiring
Skills:
Basic knowledge of PLC programming and HMI interfaces
Understanding of HVAC system components and operation
Willingness to learn SCADA architecture, PID loops, and communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, etc.)
Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and teamwork skills
