Job Title: Control Systems Technician (Offshore Platforms)

Job Summary:

The Senior Control Systems Technician (Offshore Platforms) is responsible for leading the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of complex control systems in offshore oil and gas platforms. This role involves managing critical system diagnostics, overseeing upgrades and integrations, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards. The senior technician provides technical leadership, mentors junior team members, and drives system reliability and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

System Oversight and Optimization:

  • Lead the maintenance, calibration, and optimization of advanced control systems, including PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and associated devices.
  • Develop strategies for predictive maintenance and reliability improvements to minimize downtime.
  • Analyze system performance data to identify inefficiencies and recommend actionable solutions.

Advanced Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:

  • Diagnose and resolve critical and complex issues in control systems using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
  • Perform root cause analysis for recurring faults and implement long-term corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to address technical challenges and ensure system stability.

System Integration and Upgrades:

  • Oversee the integration, commissioning, and testing of new control systems and retrofits.
  • Validate and approve system upgrades to meet safety, operational, and performance standards.
  • Lead large-scale retrofitting projects to incorporate emerging technologies and standards.

Safety and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure adherence to offshore safety protocols, industry regulations, and company standards in all activities.
  • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and implement measures to mitigate hazards.
  • Validate safety-critical systems, including emergency shutdown devices and alarms, to ensure functionality.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain comprehensive records of maintenance activities, calibration logs, and system configurations.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports on system performance, project outcomes, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Contribute to the refinement and standardization of operating procedures for control systems.

Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level technicians, fostering skill development and team growth.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on control systems, offering guidance on complex technical challenges.
  • Lead team training initiatives to ensure readiness for emerging technologies and best practices.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with operations, safety, and engineering teams to align control system performance with organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
  • Communicate effectively with management and stakeholders to provide updates and insights on system operations.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Extensive expertise in control systems, including PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and industrial communication protocols ( Modbus, Profibus, HART).
  • Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for resolving complex control system issues.
  • Strong understanding of safety standards, risk management practices, and regulatory compliance in offshore environments.
  • Proficiency in system integration, calibration, and retrofitting projects.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills for managing teams and collaborating with stakeholders.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Advanced certifications in control systems (Siemens, ABB, Honeywell) or safety (NEBOSH, OSHA) are highly desirable.

Experience:

  • 7-10 years of experience in maintaining and optimizing control systems, preferably in offshore or industrial environments.
  • Proven track record of managing complex technical tasks and leading multidisciplinary teams.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Expertise in advanced diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, loop calibrators, and thermal cameras.
  • Proficiency in SCADA/DCS platforms (Siemens WinCC, ABB, Honeywell Experion).
  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance tools and advanced analytics for performance monitoring.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in offshore environments and dynamic operational conditions.
