Job Title: Control Systems Technician (Offshore Platforms)

Job Summary:

The Mid-Level Control Systems Technician (Offshore Platforms) is responsible for independently managing the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of control systems on offshore oil and gas platforms. This role involves handling complex system diagnostics, supporting system integration and upgrades, and ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards. The technician leads routine maintenance tasks, provides technical guidance to junior staff, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to enhance system reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

System Maintenance and Optimization:

  • Perform advanced maintenance and calibration of control systems, including PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and associated devices.
  • Ensure the reliability and accuracy of sensors, actuators, control valves, and other control devices.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to reduce downtime and improve system performance.

Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:

  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues in control systems using advanced diagnostic tools and software.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for recurring system faults and implement corrective actions.
  • Document troubleshooting activities and recommend improvements to enhance system reliability.

System Integration and Upgrades:

  • Lead the installation, integration, and commissioning of new control systems and upgrades.
  • Validate and test system modifications to meet operational and safety requirements.
  • Support retrofitting projects to align existing systems with evolving technologies and standards.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all activities comply with offshore safety protocols, industry regulations, and company standards.
  • Conduct safety checks on control systems and participate in risk assessments and audits.
  • Promote a strong safety culture within the team and ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain comprehensive records of system configurations, calibration activities, and maintenance logs.
  • Prepare detailed reports on system performance, troubleshooting findings, and project updates.
  • Contribute to refining standard operating procedures (SOPs) for control system operations.

Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and fresher-level technicians.
  • Lead small teams during maintenance and project tasks, ensuring efficiency and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Act as a resource for resolving technical challenges and promoting best practices.

Collaboration and Project Management:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, operators, and safety personnel, to address control system challenges.
  • Assist in managing medium-scale projects related to system upgrades, installations, or performance enhancements.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to procure equipment and technical support.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Advanced Maintenance: Independently manage and optimize control systems to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting: Handle complex diagnostic tasks and implement corrective actions.
  • System Integration: Lead upgrades and installations of new control systems.
  • Team Leadership: Guide junior staff and contribute to team development and collaboration.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Strong expertise in control systems, including PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, HART, Profibus).
  • Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for resolving complex control system issues.
  • Knowledge of offshore safety standards, risk management practices, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in system integration, calibration, and retrofitting projects.
  • Effective leadership and communication skills for managing teams and collaborating with stakeholders.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Associate’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Advanced certifications in control systems or safety (NEBOSH, OSHA, Siemens PLC Certification) are desirable.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in maintaining and troubleshooting control systems, preferably in offshore or industrial environments.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Expertise in diagnostic tools such as loop calibrators, signal generators, and multimeters.
  • Proficiency in SCADA/DCS platforms (Siemens WinCC, ABB, Honeywell Experion).
  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance tools and advanced monitoring technologies.
