Job Title: Control Systems Technician (Offshore Platforms)

Job Summary:

The Junior Control Systems Technician (Offshore Platforms) is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and calibrating control systems used in offshore oil and gas platforms. This role involves independently handling routine maintenance tasks, assisting in system upgrades, and ensuring operational efficiency. The technician works closely with senior team members to ensure compliance with safety standards and optimize system performance.

Key Responsibilities:

System Maintenance and Calibration:

  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of control systems, including PLCs, DCS, and SCADA.
  • Ensure sensors, actuators, and control devices operate within specified parameters.
  • Conduct minor adjustments and repairs to optimize system functionality.

Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:

  • Diagnose and resolve basic system issues using diagnostic tools and software.
  • Identify root causes of equipment malfunctions and implement corrective actions.
  • Document troubleshooting activities and provide insights for system improvement.

System Monitoring and Upgrades:

  • Monitor control systems for anomalies and respond to alarms and faults promptly.
  • Assist in the integration of new control devices and system upgrades.
  • Validate system modifications to ensure compliance with operational standards.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow offshore safety protocols and ensure compliance with industry regulations during all activities.
  • Conduct safety checks on control systems and participate in safety drills.
  • Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and report unsafe conditions.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed logs of maintenance activities, calibration records, and system configurations.
  • Prepare reports on system performance and troubleshooting activities for review by senior staff.
  • Update standard operating procedures (SOPs) based on field experiences and best practices.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to address system challenges.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to fresher-level technicians on routine tasks.
  • Assist senior technicians and engineers in complex system diagnostics and upgrades.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Maintenance and Calibration: Independently perform routine maintenance and calibration tasks.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve minor system issues effectively.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a safe work environment.
  • System Integration: Support upgrades and new system installations.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Solid understanding of control systems, including PLCs, DCS, and SCADA.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving basic issues in sensors, actuators, and control devices.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols like Modbus, HART, and Profibus.
  • Knowledge of offshore safety standards and risk mitigation practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for troubleshooting system issues.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Associate’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications in control systems or safety (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA) are advantageous.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in maintaining and troubleshooting control systems, preferably in offshore or industrial environments.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools like multimeters, loop calibrators, and signal generators.
  • Familiarity with SCADA/DCS platforms and basic programming skills for PLCs.
  • Knowledge of predictive maintenance tools is beneficial.
