Job Title: Control Systems Engineer (Electrical)

Job Summary:

The Junior Control Systems Engineer (Electrical) is responsible for assisting with the design, installation, programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical control systems. This role involves supporting the team with automation systems, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), SCADA systems, and instrumentation used in industrial applications. The Junior Engineer will work under the supervision of senior engineers, gaining hands-on experience in control systems engineering and contributing to the smooth operation and optimization of electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design Support and System Configuration:

    • Assist in the design and configuration of electrical control systems, including PLCs, control panels, sensors, and actuators.
    • Help create technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, system schematics, and equipment specifications under the guidance of senior engineers.
    • Support the selection of appropriate instrumentation and components based on system requirements and project needs.
  2. Installation and Commissioning:

    • Assist with the installation of control systems and associated electrical components, such as control panels, PLCs, and wiring.
    • Participate in system commissioning, ensuring that all components are functioning as expected.
    • Work with senior engineers to ensure that the system setup is in compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
  3. PLC Programming and System Integration:

    • Assist with programming and configuring PLCs to control various industrial processes or equipment.
    • Support system integration, ensuring that electrical control systems work effectively with other machinery or automation systems.
    • Help test and verify system performance after programming and integration.
  4. Troubleshooting and Maintenance:

    • Help troubleshoot issues in electrical control systems and automation equipment, including PLCs, sensors, actuators, and control panels.
    • Assist with routine maintenance tasks to ensure systems remain operational, reducing downtime.
    • Perform checks on control system components, diagnosing faults and assisting in repairs under supervision.
  5. System Testing and Optimization:

    • Assist in testing control systems to verify functionality and system performance.
    • Help analyze data from control systems to identify areas for optimization and implement necessary adjustments.
    • Support senior engineers in system performance evaluations and troubleshooting issues that arise.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of system configurations, changes, testing procedures, and maintenance activities.
    • Prepare basic reports on system performance, tests, and corrective actions taken.
    • Assist in updating project documentation, ensuring it is clear and compliant with industry standards.
  7. Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure that all work complies with electrical and safety standards, including lock-out/tag-out procedures and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) usage.
    • Follow industry regulations, safety standards (e.g., NEC, IEC), and internal safety protocols when working with electrical systems.
    • Report any safety hazards and assist in identifying ways to improve system safety.
  8. Learning and Development:

    • Continuously learn and develop technical skills in control systems, PLC programming, automation technologies, and electrical systems under the mentorship of senior engineers.
    • Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance knowledge of industry trends and control systems best practices.
    • Stay current on new technologies and methods in control systems engineering.
  9. Team Collaboration and Support:

    • Collaborate effectively with senior engineers, technicians, and other departments to complete tasks and achieve project goals.
    • Provide support to the team during installations, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities, helping to resolve technical challenges.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of electrical control systems, automation, PLCs, and SCADA systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical components such as sensors, actuators, relays, and control panels.
  • Basic understanding of programming languages for PLCs (e.g., ladder logic, structured text).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and automation equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work within safety guidelines.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and develop technical expertise in control systems engineering.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and document technical work.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Coursework or academic projects related to PLC programming, control systems, or automation is advantageous.
  • Certifications in electrical systems, automation, or PLC programming are a plus but not required.

  • Power Distribution Networks

  • Assisting in designing and implementing control systems for power distribution networks to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • SCADA and PLC Systems

  • Programming, configuring, and troubleshooting SCADA and PLC systems in control applications.
  • Electrical Safety Standards and Codes (IEC, NEC)

  • Ensuring compliance with IEC, NEC, and relevant safety standards during control system design and operation.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in control systems, electrical systems, or automation.
  • Prior experience through internships, academic projects, or hands-on work related to electrical control systems is beneficial but not required.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with PLC programming software (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Rockwell) is a plus but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical testing tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and circuit analyzers.
  • Exposure to SCADA systems, control system simulation software, or AutoCAD is beneficial but not required.
