Job Title: Clinical Instrumentation Technician

Job Summary:

The Junior Clinical Instrumentation Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of clinical devices and instrumentation in healthcare environments. This role involves ensuring the accuracy and reliability of medical equipment, supporting healthcare professionals with device operation, and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The technician operates independently on routine tasks and provides support to senior technicians for complex issues.

Key Responsibilities:

Device Calibration and Maintenance:

  • Perform routine calibration and preventive maintenance of clinical devices, including patient monitors, infusion pumps, ventilators, and diagnostic tools.
  • Ensure all equipment operates within specified performance parameters by conducting regular performance checks.
  • Maintain accurate service logs and documentation for compliance and audit purposes.

Troubleshooting and Repairs:

  • Diagnose and resolve minor technical issues in clinical equipment independently.
  • Use diagnostic tools to analyze device performance and implement corrective measures.
  • Collaborate with senior technicians or vendors for resolving complex technical problems.

Device Installation and Integration:

  • Assist in the installation and integration of new clinical devices into healthcare systems.
  • Validate device functionality and performance after installation or upgrades.
  • Provide technical training to healthcare staff on device operation and features.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure adherence to healthcare standards such as FDA, ISO, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Follow established safety protocols during device maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in internal audits and inspections, maintaining accurate records of activities.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Provide on-site technical support to clinicians and healthcare teams for operational issues.
  • Act as a liaison between clinical staff and senior technicians to ensure smooth device operation.
  • Support equipment procurement and inventory management processes.

Learning and Development:

  • Enhance technical skills and knowledge of clinical instrumentation systems through training and workshops.
  • Stay updated on advancements in clinical devices and healthcare regulations.
  • Participate in team discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions to build expertise.

  • Device Maintenance: Independently handle calibration, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical assistance and operational guidance to clinical teams.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Proficiency in maintaining and troubleshooting clinical devices, including infusion pumps, ventilators, and patient monitors.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools such as multimeters, flow meters, and electrical safety analyzers.
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare standards and regulations, including FDA and ISO 13485.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address technical challenges effectively.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with clinical staff and technical teams.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Associate’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Instrumentation Technology, Electronics, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications in healthcare safety or device maintenance (e.g., ISO 13485) are desirable.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in maintaining and troubleshooting clinical devices in healthcare or related environments.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools and calibration equipment for clinical devices.
  • Knowledge of medical devices such as patient monitors, ventilators, and laboratory equipment.
  • Basic proficiency in using documentation and analysis tools like Microsoft Excel.
