Job Title: Clinical Instrumentation Technician

Job Summary:

The Clinical Instrumentation Technician at the fresher level is responsible for assisting with the installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of clinical equipment and instrumentation in healthcare settings. This role involves gaining hands-on experience with clinical devices, ensuring adherence to safety and regulatory standards, and supporting healthcare professionals in the effective use of medical equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

Device Installation and Setup:

  • Assist in the installation and configuration of clinical devices, such as patient monitors, infusion pumps, and diagnostic tools.
  • Conduct initial testing and validation to ensure proper functionality of equipment.
  • Provide basic support to healthcare staff during the device setup process.

Calibration and Maintenance:

  • Support routine calibration and preventive maintenance activities for clinical instruments.
  • Perform basic performance checks to ensure devices operate within specified parameters.
  • Document maintenance activities and update service logs under supervision.

Troubleshooting and Repairs:

  • Assist in diagnosing and resolving minor technical issues in clinical equipment.
  • Use basic diagnostic tools to identify performance discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
  • Escalate complex technical challenges to senior technicians or engineers.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety:

  • Follow healthcare safety protocols and standards during installation and maintenance activities.
  • Assist in ensuring that clinical devices comply with relevant regulatory requirements, such as FDA and ISO standards.
  • Participate in safety training programs and workshops to build awareness of healthcare safety practices.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Work closely with clinical staff to understand equipment functionality and resolve operational issues.
  • Provide on-site technical support during clinical operations as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth operations.

Learning and Development:

  • Build foundational knowledge of clinical instrumentation, including sensors, control systems, and calibration techniques.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance technical skills and understanding of healthcare standards.
  • Shadow senior technicians to gain exposure to advanced troubleshooting and maintenance procedures.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of clinical devices and their applications in healthcare environments.

  • Awareness of safety protocols and regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, ISO).
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills for collaborating with clinical and technical teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a dynamic healthcare setting.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Associate’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Instrumentation Technology, Electronics, or a related technical field.
  • Basic certifications in healthcare safety or medical equipment maintenance (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA) are a plus.

Experience:

  • No prior experience required; internships or academic projects related to clinical instrumentation are beneficial.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Exposure to diagnostic tools such as multimeters, flow meters, and electrical safety analyzers.
  • Familiarity with basic medical devices like patient monitors, infusion pumps, and ventilators.
  • Basic proficiency in using documentation tools like Microsoft Excel or similar software.
