The Chief Automation Officer (CAO) is responsible for developing and executing the automation and smart factory strategy across all manufacturing and packaging units in the food and beverage (F&B) enterprise. The CAO leads cross-functional teams in deploying advanced control systems, robotics, industrial IoT, and AI/ML for optimized production, quality, and compliance.
Develop and implement a company-wide automation roadmap aligned with production, quality, and sustainability goals.
Lead automation projects from concept to execution including digital twins, PLC/SCADA modernization, and robotics integration.
Define KPIs for automation ROI and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Spearhead Industry 4.0 initiatives, integrating edge computing, MES, AI, and IIoT for predictive analytics and operational visibility.
Enable real-time production data capture and insights to reduce downtime, waste, and energy use.
Champion the shift to paperless factories, automated traceability, and digital SOPs.
Evaluate and deploy best-fit technologies including DCS, SCADA, PLC, HMI, batch systems, and plant-wide automation platforms.
Standardize controls architecture across plants and ensure interoperability.
Oversee vendor selection, system integrators, and capital project delivery.
Collaborate with production, QA/QC, IT, maintenance, and R&D for integrated automation efforts.
Partner with procurement and finance on budgeting and long-term technology investments.
Work closely with HR and training teams to build automation capability and upskill workforce.
Ensure automation systems are GMP, FDA, HACCP, ISO, and food safety compliant.
Develop risk mitigation strategies for cybersecurity in control systems (ISA/IEC 62443).
Maintain documentation, audit readiness, and standard operating procedures for automated systems.
Deep expertise in industrial automation technologies, SCADA/DCS systems, MES, and robotics.
Visionary leadership in digital transformation and smart factory enablement.
Proven ability to drive ROI, reduce OEE losses, and improve line efficiencies via automation.
Strong understanding of food & beverage production environments, compliance, and traceability.
Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and vendor negotiation skills.
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Automation, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering
15+ years of experience in automation leadership roles, with at least 5 years in the F&B sector
Experience in multi-plant rollouts, greenfield/brownfield projects, and digital manufacturing systems
Certifications in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or ISA standards are a plus
