Job Title: Boiler and Turbine Technician

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Boiler and Turbine Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of boilers and turbine systems, ensuring that they operate efficiently and safely. As a senior technician, you will provide expert-level troubleshooting, lead maintenance projects, mentor junior technicians, and ensure that the equipment is maintained in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. You will play a key role in ensuring the continuous operation of critical mechanical systems and contributing to the overall reliability and efficiency of the plant.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead Boiler and Turbine Maintenance and Repairs:

    • Oversee and perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on boilers, turbines, and associated systems (e.g., pumps, compressors, and steam generators).
    • Lead complex diagnostic procedures to identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, and operational issues with turbines and boilers.
    • Ensure that all repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards.
  2. Preventive Maintenance Program Management:

    • Design, implement, and manage preventive maintenance (PM) schedules for boilers and turbine systems to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
    • Regularly assess the performance of boiler and turbine systems, recommending upgrades or modifications as necessary to improve performance or reduce energy consumption.
    • Ensure all maintenance activities are performed according to the manufacturer's specifications and safety standards.
  3. Leadership and Mentorship:

    • Mentor junior technicians and provide technical leadership during maintenance tasks, troubleshooting, and system optimizations.
    • Conduct training sessions on proper maintenance techniques, safety standards, and best practices for boiler and turbine operation.
    • Lead by example, ensuring that all team members follow safety protocols, quality standards, and operational procedures.
  4. Safety and Compliance Oversight:

    • Ensure that all maintenance and operational activities comply with local, state, and federal safety regulations and environmental standards (e.g., OSHA, ASME, EPA).
    • Lead safety audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards associated with boiler and turbine operations, and implement corrective actions.
    • Develop and enforce safety protocols for boiler and turbine maintenance work, ensuring the team uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  5. Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:

    • Act as the lead technician for troubleshooting major mechanical issues with boiler and turbine systems, providing guidance to the team and ensuring timely resolutions.
    • Collaborate with engineers and other maintenance personnel to analyze system failures and implement solutions to prevent recurrence.
    • Manage the root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring equipment failures and recommend improvements to prevent future issues.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and compliance audits.
    • Prepare and present reports on equipment performance, maintenance status, and recommendations for improvements to senior management.
    • Ensure documentation is complete and accessible for future audits, reviews, or operational evaluations.
  7. Project Management and Coordination:

    • Lead and manage complex maintenance projects involving the overhaul or replacement of key components in boiler and turbine systems.
    • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and operations teams to ensure that maintenance projects are completed on time and within budget.
    • Oversee the commissioning of new equipment or system upgrades and ensure proper integration with existing infrastructure.
  8. Continuous Improvement:

    • Continuously seek ways to optimize the performance of boilers and turbines, minimizing downtime and maximizing energy efficiency.
    • Contribute to the development of best practices and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for maintaining and operating boiler and turbine systems.
    • Stay current with industry advancements, technologies, and regulations, and incorporate relevant innovations into maintenance practices.

  1. Boiler and Turbine Maintenance Leadership:

    • Lead and oversee the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of boiler and turbine systems, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
  2. Preventive Maintenance and System Optimization:

    • Manage and optimize preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend the lifespan of boiler and turbine equipment.
  3. Team Leadership and Development:

    • Mentor and guide junior technicians, ensuring they develop the necessary skills to handle maintenance tasks independently and safely.
  4. Safety and Regulatory Compliance:

    • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and industry standards, promoting a safety-first culture.
  5. Continuous Improvement and Troubleshooting:

    • Drive continuous improvement efforts, lead troubleshooting activities, and contribute to system optimization initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Requirements:

    • A high school diploma or equivalent; a degree or certification in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field is highly preferred.
    • Relevant certifications in boiler or turbine operation/maintenance (e.g., ASME, National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors, OSHA) are beneficial.
  2. Experience:

    • 7+ years of experience in boiler and turbine maintenance, with at least 3 years in a senior technician or leadership role.
    • Strong background in troubleshooting and repairing complex mechanical systems, including turbines, boilers, compressors, and pumps.
    • Experience in managing preventive maintenance programs and overseeing large-scale maintenance projects.
  3. Skills:

    • Expert knowledge of boiler and turbine operation, maintenance, and safety protocols.
    • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, with the ability to lead problem-solving efforts for complex mechanical issues.
    • Proficiency in the use of diagnostic tools, manuals, and maintenance management systems.
    • Strong leadership skills, with experience mentoring junior staff and leading maintenance teams.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with engineers, operations, and senior management.
    • Thorough understanding of safety and regulatory compliance standards related to high-pressure systems.
  4. Certifications (Preferred):

    • National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBPI) certification.
    • Boiler and turbine operation or maintenance certifications.
    • OSHA 30-hour safety certification or equivalent.
