Job Title: Boiler and Turbine Technician

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Boiler and Turbine Technician – Mid-Level to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing the performance of boilers and turbine systems. You will work independently and as part of a team to ensure the reliable operation of these critical systems, helping to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency. As a mid-level technician, you will be expected to take on more complex tasks, provide leadership to junior technicians, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in the maintenance process.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Boiler and Turbine Operation and Maintenance:

    • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on boilers, turbines, and associated equipment, ensuring they operate efficiently and within safety guidelines.
    • Independently diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues related to boilers and turbines.
    • Assist in the testing and calibration of turbines and boilers, ensuring they are operating optimally and meet regulatory compliance.
  2. Preventive Maintenance and System Optimization:

    • Lead and support preventive maintenance (PM) activities, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn-out components.
    • Monitor the performance of boilers and turbines, using data to identify trends or potential problems that may affect performance.
    • Make recommendations for system upgrades or modifications to improve performance, safety, or cost efficiency.
  3. Troubleshooting and Emergency Repairs:

    • Lead troubleshooting efforts during mechanical failures, applying diagnostic techniques to identify issues and implement corrective actions promptly.
    • Provide emergency repairs as needed, minimizing equipment downtime and ensuring safety standards are maintained.
    • Work closely with senior technicians and other maintenance staff to resolve complex mechanical failures.
  4. Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure all boiler and turbine operations and maintenance comply with industry safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
    • Conduct regular safety audits, report hazards, and implement corrective actions to ensure safe operations.
    • Lead safety training sessions for junior technicians, ensuring they follow proper procedures when handling high-pressure systems and other equipment.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections on boilers, turbines, and related systems.
    • Prepare and submit detailed reports on equipment performance, maintenance activities, and any incidents or safety concerns.
    • Ensure all compliance documentation is up-to-date and easily accessible for audits.
  6. Team Leadership and Mentorship:

    • Mentor junior technicians, providing guidance on troubleshooting techniques, safety practices, and maintenance procedures.
    • Lead smaller teams during equipment shutdowns or planned maintenance projects, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
    • Provide technical support to other departments as needed, collaborating on cross-functional projects and operations.
  7. Continuous Improvement:

    • Identify areas for improvement in boiler and turbine systems, proposing enhancements to improve reliability, reduce energy consumption, and optimize performance.
    • Participate in root cause analysis for recurring equipment failures and contribute to implementing long-term solutions.
    • Stay updated on the latest technologies, best practices, and regulatory changes in boiler and turbine maintenance.

  1. Independent Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

    • Independently handle the maintenance and troubleshooting of boilers, turbines, and associated systems to ensure optimal performance.
  2. Preventive Maintenance and System Efficiency:

    • Oversee and enhance preventive maintenance activities and contribute to optimizing boiler and turbine efficiency.
  3. Leadership and Team Development:

    • Lead junior technicians, providing mentorship and guidance to help develop their skills and enhance team performance.
  4. Safety and Regulatory Compliance:

    • Ensure that all maintenance work is carried out in compliance with safety regulations and company policies, fostering a safe working environment.
  5. Continuous Improvement:

    • Actively contribute to initiatives that enhance system reliability, improve performance, and reduce downtime.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate’s degree or certification in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
    • Any relevant certifications related to boilers, turbines, or power generation equipment are beneficial (e.g., OSHA, ASME).
  2. Experience:

    • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in boiler and turbine maintenance, with a strong understanding of their operation and components.
    • Proven experience troubleshooting and repairing complex mechanical systems, including high-pressure systems and rotating equipment.
  3. Skills:

    • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, including boilers, turbines, pumps, and auxiliary equipment.
    • Ability to use diagnostic tools and techniques to troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment issues.
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and implement solutions effectively.
    • Strong communication and team collaboration skills, with experience leading or mentoring others.
    • Solid understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to high-pressure systems and power generation.
  4. Certifications (Preferred):

    • Boiler Operator Certification, Turbine Maintenance Certification, or similar industry-related credentials.
    • OSHA or other safety certifications.
    • Additional certifications in mechanical, electrical, or HVAC systems are a plus.
