We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Boiler Welder with deep expertise in high-pressure boiler welding, pressure vessel fabrication, and code-compliant repair work. This role requires precision, leadership, and strong familiarity with national and international welding standards. The candidate will oversee critical welding operations, ensure quality compliance, and mentor junior welders.
Lead all welding activities related to boiler repair, pressure part fabrication, re-tubing, and modifications.
Interpret engineering drawings, welding procedure specifications (WPS), and work with QA/QC teams for inspections.
Perform advanced welding techniques (TIG, SMAW, MIG, SAW) on a variety of boiler materials including carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel.
Ensure compliance with safety codes, IBR/ASME welding standards, and plant quality protocols.
Conduct or assist in hydrostatic testing, non-destructive testing (NDT), and prepare weld documentation.
Supervise and train junior and mid-level welders; ensure high-quality workmanship and adherence to timelines.
Coordinate closely with engineers, plant maintenance staff, and inspection authorities during shutdowns or repair cycles.
Maintain welding equipment and consumables inventory; ensure readiness for emergency repairs.
Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) for welding-related failures and suggest corrective actions.
Code Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure every weld adheres to IBR/ASME Section IX requirements and passes third-party inspections (e.g., RT, UT, PT).
Leadership & Supervision: Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and hands-on support to junior welders and assist in task allocation and shift planning.
Advanced Technical Skill: Execute complex welding positions (6G, 5G) and precision repairs in critical areas such as boiler drums, headers, and superheaters.
Shutdown & Emergency Repairs: Lead critical welding jobs during planned shutdowns and urgent breakdowns to minimize downtime.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed weld logs, defect records, NDT reports, and ensure traceability of materials and procedures used.
ITI / Diploma in Welding Technology / Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum 7 years of hands-on welding experience in high-pressure boiler systems.
Valid IBR or ASME Boiler Welder Certification.
Strong understanding of welding metallurgy, joint preparation, and distortion control.
Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings and welding symbols.
Familiarity with plant safety procedures, confined space entry, and fire safety norms.
Experience in supervising teams, managing shift work, and liaising with inspection agencies.
