Job Title: Boiler Valve Technician

Job Summary:
The Junior Boiler Valve Technician is responsible for supporting the maintenance, installation, and repair of valves in boiler systems across industrial facilities. This role involves assisting senior technicians in ensuring that all boiler valves are functioning safely and efficiently. The Junior Technician will gain hands-on experience working with valves in various types of boiler systems, learning to troubleshoot issues, perform routine maintenance, and assist with repairs under the guidance of experienced professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Valve Installation and Maintenance Assistance:

    • Assist in the installation and commissioning of boiler valves, ensuring that they are properly integrated into the system.
    • Support routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting valves for wear, leaks, or malfunctions.
    • Learn to perform maintenance on a variety of valves (e.g., safety, control, pressure relief) and their associated components (e.g., actuators, seals, gaskets).
  2. Troubleshooting and Repairs:

    • Assist senior technicians in diagnosing valve-related issues, including leaks, pressure problems, or valve failures.
    • Help replace or repair defective valve components such as seals, valve stems, or pressure regulators.
    • Learn how to perform basic troubleshooting using diagnostic tools and manuals, under the supervision of senior technicians.
  3. Valve Testing and Calibration:

    • Assist in testing valves after maintenance or repairs to ensure they meet operational and safety standards.
    • Support the calibration of valves to ensure proper functionality under different pressure and temperature conditions.
    • Help perform leak tests, pressure tests, and valve seating checks to confirm that valves are operating correctly.
  4. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of valve maintenance activities, including parts replaced, maintenance schedules, and performance tests.
    • Assist in preparing reports detailing inspection findings, repair activities, and valve performance metrics.
    • Help senior technicians track valve maintenance history to ensure compliance with maintenance schedules.
  5. Safety and Compliance:

    • Follow safety protocols and guidelines when working with boiler systems and valve equipment.
    • Assist in ensuring that all valve installations and repairs comply with relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, NEC).
    • Ensure a safe working environment by using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to workplace safety practices.
  6. Learning and Development:

    • Continuously learn about the various types of valves used in boiler systems and their specific applications.
    • Participate in on-the-job training and educational opportunities to develop technical skills in valve maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation.
    • Stay updated with the latest technologies, tools, and best practices for valve operations and maintenance.
  7. Team Collaboration and Support:

    • Collaborate with senior technicians and other team members to efficiently carry out valve maintenance and repair tasks.
    • Provide support to other maintenance staff as needed, ensuring tasks are completed according to schedule and in line with safety standards.
    • Assist in gathering and preparing tools, equipment, and materials needed for valve-related maintenance activities.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems, particularly valves used in boiler systems.
  • Familiarity with mechanical tools and equipment, including wrenches, pressure gauges, and flow meters.
  • Knowledge of valve types (e.g., safety valves, control valves, pressure relief valves) and their operation is advantageous but not required.
  • Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills related to boiler valve maintenance and repair.
  • Good problem-solving skills to assist in diagnosing and resolving valve issues.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work effectively within a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring the safety and reliability of boiler systems.

Key Focus Areas:

Field Instrumentation: Assist in maintaining and calibrating field devices for accurate process control.

Troubleshooting: Learn basic fault diagnosis and support the resolution of issues in instrumentation systems.

Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and participate in training programs to ensure workplace safety.

Skill Development: Gain technical knowledge and experience in oil and gas field operations.

Educational Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement).
  • A technical diploma or certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field is a plus.
  • Basic training or coursework related to valves, plumbing, or industrial maintenance is beneficial.

Experience:

  • 0-2 years of experience in mechanical systems, industrial maintenance, or valve-related work (internships or academic projects are advantageous).
  • Exposure to maintenance or installation tasks in industrial settings is beneficial but not required.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with basic hand tools, including wrenches, screwdrivers, and pipe cutters.
  • Exposure to pressure testing equipment, leak detection tools, and calibration instruments is a plus but not required.
  • Familiarity with boiler system components, including valves, pumps, and actuators, is beneficial.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work safely in an industrial environment, including the handling of mechanical tools and working with high-pressure systems.
  • Willingness to work in various environments, including industrial plants, factories, and field locations.
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with senior technicians and team members.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites and work on different types of valve systems as required.
