The Mid-Level Boiler Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting steam generation equipment and auxiliary systems to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous plant utility performance. This role includes direct interaction with burner management systems (BMS), water treatment equipment, and control interfaces. The technician performs preventive maintenance, supports safety compliance, and plays a key role in steam system reliability within a regulated manufacturing environment.
Operate and monitor firetube or watertube boilers, deaerators, feedwater systems, and condensate return.
Maintain steam pressures, water levels, and fuel input to ensure consistent, safe operation.
Log performance data and respond to trends or anomalies using HMI/SCADA systems.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on burners, valves, blowdown systems, flame detectors, and combustion controls.
Diagnose and correct issues with pumps, actuators, water softeners, or control loops.
Assist in tuning and calibration of fuel-air ratios, safety shutdowns, and flame safeguards.
Ensure all boiler operations comply with OSHA, EPA, ASME (BPVC), and food safety requirements.
Conduct safety device testing (relief valves, low-water cutoffs, alarms) per required schedules.
Maintain LOTO practices and participate in internal safety audits and incident investigations.
Identify opportunities to improve fuel efficiency, reduce blowdown loss, or optimize condensate recovery.
Support cross-functional utilities teams during production shutdowns, audits, or utility upgrades.
Assist in training junior technicians and onboarding new team members.
